Job Description

A new vacancy for a Delivery Lead/ System Engineer within Cyber Security has arisen within Airbus Defence & Space in Newport.

On a daily basis you will report into the Technical Manager/System Design Authority, you will be leading the delivery of the system engineering solution for an important programme within the Airbus Cyber Security business.

As a delivery lead/systems engineer you will be responsible for the execution of system engineering work packages, overseeing their timely completion in accordance with Airbus system engineering governance whilst meeting project deliverable expectations.

You will liaise within a multi-disciplined team (including project management, software, hardware and test functions) to ensure the solution is technical feasible and aligns with the stakeholder and system level requirements throughout the development lifecycle.

The role sits within the System Engineering function of Airbus Cyber Security, where you will be encouraged to engage with the System Engineering functional lead and other senior operational staff to improve the systems engineering process/tools across the business area and provide support to mentor and train other engineers.

Tasks And Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the delivery of the assigned work packages including but not limited to:
    • Establish defined deliverables and objectives for the completion of the work package.
    • Proactively engage with the Project and Technical Managers to determine the cost, time and resource constraints to develop a delivery solution.
    • Provide detailed specifications for proposed solutions including materials, manpower and time.
    • Support management and monitoring of work package delivery.
    • Establish milestones for necessary contributions from departments and develop processes to facilitate their collaboration.
    • Working alongside the requirements lead to develop the requirements set alongside a viable solution.
    • Working with the ITEA team to assure the performance, quality and functionality of the system against the deliverable requirements.
    • Assist other department engineers in creating practical demonstrations of proposed solutions and demonstrating them to other members of the team.
    • Creating accurate, schematics plans of the system.
  • Responsible for providing clear engineering best practices through adopting the necessary corporate and engineering governance.
  • Provide the appropriate guidance for the delivery team to enable them to:
    • Run daily testing and diagnostics on IT systems to identify potential problems.
    • Identifying and resolving malfunctions within the system.
    • Developing and installing new hardware or software to update and improve the functionality of systems.
    • Liaising with outside suppliers or developers to source the most effective hardware or software for the company’s needs.
    • Building robust backups that can be accessed in the event of system failures.
    • Update the programme configuration management tools to ensure the right system information is available at the right time.
  • Work closely with engineering professionals within the company to:
    • Develop clear coherent system information to enable rigorous asset management.
    • Develop a Bill of Material for the system of interest / deliverable.
    • Develop the necessary support structures to meet the deliverable requirements.
    • Maintain hardware and software needed for projects to be completed efficiently.
Essential Experience

  • Experience in a leading systems engineering role or a desire to develop from an experienced system engineering background into this position.
  • Understanding and application of system engineering lifecycles with large, complex engineering projects.
  • Experience of planning, estimating and defining engineering tasks.
  • Knowledge and experience of working to the V-Model, Spiral and Agile methods of development.
  • Be proactive about challenges or constraints within a project and seek to manage them accordingly.

Desirable Experience

  • Ability to operate both at a strategic and tactical level, with a willingness to engage directly to resolve detailed technical issues.
  • Experience in the Defence / Aerospace or safety regulated environment would be advantageous.
  • Experience working collaboratively across a large team to achieve business improvement objectives.
  • Experience in using Model-Based Systems Engineering Tools.
  • Previous experience mentoring junior engineers.
  • Experience of software development, integration and testing at a full system level.
