We’re on the lookout for a Data Engineer to join our team. You will work remotely with occasional travel to one of our offices.

What we can offer you;
  • £50,000 - £65,000 salary depending on experience

What’s the purpose of the role?

RM Studio, the innovation group within RM, is looking for somebody with the right technical expertise and an innovation mindset to join us in 2021.

We’re clear in our vision of improving educational outcomes around the world and our passion for both education and technology means that long careers are normal with RM. Now, we’re looking for a Data Engineer to join an already awesome group of people working in RM Studio.

What does the job entail?
  • Working alongside Software Engineers, Designers and User Researchers in understanding the needs of users and the purpose of the solution
  • Helping RM to build and maintain new data systems across existing and future products
  • Ensuring that new datasets are robustly designed and constructed for easy analysis in a consistent and machine-readable format
  • Designing, developing and testing data architectures for efficient processing and transformation
  • Ensuring data availability and suitability for predictive or prescriptive modelling
  • Helping to improve data quality and coaching others to do the same
  • Being involved in the end-to-end discovery, definition, design and delivery of innovation work
  • Staying abreast of developments in technology including programming languages, techniques and design patterns
  • Playing an active role in RM’s Communities of Practice

What are we looking for?

Key Skills 
  • Strong technical knowledge including proficiency in
  • Business Intelligence platforms and analytics
  • Data visualisation using tools such as Power BI, Tableau, D3.js and R
  • Database technology such as MS T-SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL and MongoDB
  • Excellent verbal communication and the ability to talk about technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and team members
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • A keen attention to detail
  • A passion for learning new things, whether technology, skills or learning about a new domain
  • Bringing empathy to everything you do – asking “why” not “what”


Essential
  • You will have worked as part of a delivery team following an Agile framework such as Kanban or Scrum
  • You will have worked on a project or product that had a clearly defined end-user and be able to explain what need the project or product addressed
  • You can demonstrate where you have used technology to solve problems and explain why you chose the technology and the approach that you did
  • Hands-on experience of designing data architecture and data warehouses
  • Analysis and integration of multiple data sources of both structured and unstructured data
  • Experience of designing for data scalability, availability, fault tolerance, and elasticity
  • Hands-on experience of data modelling based on a deep understanding of the user’s domain
  • Ability to strike the right balance between cost and business value of data solutions whilst meeting the needs of the user
