The Cabinet Office is undergoing a significant Digital Transformation. Job description

As a Data Architect, you’ll be responsible for defining the data architecture, data model and governance of the digital services in the Cabinet Office. You will be working in teams and supporting a number of projects. You’ll negotiate, consult and work collaboratively within the directorate and with the business units in digital transformation programmes, and communicate this to the stakeholders.

You will

  • Design architecture solutions in line with the long term objectives of the Cabinet Office
  • Influence the design of data infrastructure that support complex data analytics services
  • Help maintain the integrity of the Cabinet Office critical databases
  • Develop an expert understanding of the Cabinet Office, tailoring offerings accordingly
  • Consult and advise on digital delivery programmes, liaising with stakeholders and communicating architectural concepts clearly and accurately
  • Attend the Cabinet Office technical design authority and other technical communities, speak up about data requirements and best practices
  • Support the running of the Cabinet Office technical design authority and other technical communities
  • Support the adoption of the enterprise assets repository, establish a process to ensure data quality of the repository
  • Support the business units with their digital roadmaps to improve conformance with architecture principles
  • Form trusted relationships with external suppliers and technical stakeholders

Person specification

Essential Criteria

  • Experience of architecture design for example data infrastructure, data models, enterprise data management, reusable technology components and reference architectures
  • Experience in defining technical governance principles, strategies and standards
  • Hands on experience with SQL, XML and data analytics tools
  • Experience working on cloud hosted solutions on platforms such as AWS, Azure or Google
  • Experience in collecting enterprise asset data, and using them to derive enterprise-level insights
  • Working knowledge of different software delivery practices including agile delivery
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to explain difficult concepts to anyone who needs to understand
  • Experience of building long term healthy stakeholder relationships
  • Experience working in a complex environment where you need to think on your feet and make important decisions as they need to be made
  • You take responsibility for you and your team’s performance

Desirable Criteria

  • Working hands on knowledge of AWS services and best practices
  • Knowledge of architecture or engineering framework, such as TOGAF, ITIL

A minimum 60% of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace. Although requirements to attend other locations for official business will also count towards this level of attendance.
