Location: County Hall, Chichester

The Data and Performance Team within our Children’s Services process and analyse a range of data in support of the Local Authorities operational responsibilities. As a Data Analyst, you will work within the Data and Performance Team to support our statutory and strategic responsibilities and provide information which enables performance to be measured and monitored.

You will collect, process, and analyse data to provide information to services effectively. There will be responsibility to design and develop plans for maintaining data, and to present data for recommendations on service implementation and improvements.

We are looking for someone with excellent IT and problem-solving skills, with good verbal and written communication. You must have confidence in working with large databases and datasets and be able to support others in their use and application.

Experience and Skills


Key Skills:


  • Good numeracy skills to make sound and accurate calculations, working methodically and in detail with an understanding of data.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to research, organise and analyse data from a variety of sources and produce qualitative information with minimal guidance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present analysis and findings clearly, concisely, and accurately to a range of audiences in a way that promotes understanding.
  • Sound problem solving skills with the ability to identify and analyse complex issues and diagnose business solutions, making logical and rational decisions based on all information available.
  • Ability to undertake specific training to meet business requirements and work to agreed deadlines.
  • Highly computer literate with sound IT skills, including Word and Excel, to manipulate data and produce reports.

Qualifications and/or experience:

  • Degree or equivalent qualification or experience demonstrating that level of applied knowledge in data management, analysis and report writing.
  • Advanced theoretical, practical, and procedural knowledge across a specialist area. Knowledge and understanding of the theory and principles of data management and analysis.
  • Experience of collating and interpreting complex information.
  • Experience of undertaking complex statistical analysis and detailing findings to a wide range of audiences.
  • Demonstrable evidence of organising and handling large amounts of data including figures to produce high quality reports to inform business decision making.
  • Experience and confidence in dealing with people and the ability to establish credibility at all levels of the organisation.
  • Knowledge of specific management systems, specific databases or data analysis programmes (e.g. PowerBI) - Desirable
  • Good working knowledge of services for children and young people - Desirable
