Role Purpose:

To develop and deliver cyber-crime awareness, working in partnership with colleagues, other law enforcement agencies and private industry to mitigate cyber threats.

Work with the wider Cyber Prevent network as well as partners in education and private industry, to provide support and diversion opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

As the South Yorkshire Police Cyber Protect/Prevent officer, you will be part of a team dedicated, working in partnership with colleagues, other law enforcement agencies, academia, and private industry to raise awareness of cyber threats and to provide diversion opportunities.

The Cyber Protect/Prevent Officer will be required to:

  • Possess knowledge of cybercrime trends, threats, methodologies, enablers and terminology, with a drive to develop their own knowledge.
  • Develop strong internal and external partnerships.
  • Possess good time management and an ability to work independently.
  • Work and travel throughout the South Yorkshire area.
  • Develop and deliver cybercrime awareness to educate members of the public and to assist in reducing cyber-attacks and their impact on the public.
  • Develop and deliver messaging to encourage the reporting of cybercrime threats to law enforcement, and the promotion and benefits of joining information sharing networks.
  • Identify and provide an appropriate service to individuals and organisations that may be vulnerable to cybercrime.
  • Work in partnership with the Regional Organised Crime Units and other partners to develop protect/prevent strategies through the sharing best practice and ‘lessons’ learnt.’
  • Identify and engage with subjects identified as on the periphery or cybercrime, providing support and diversion from further offending.
  • Liaise with key stakeholders across Law Enforcement/Industry/Academia/Education to identify diversion opportunities for cyber prevent subjects.

Essentials:

Self-motivated, organised, and able to prioritise at short notice.

Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Good knowledge of cybercrime trends, threats, methodologies, enablers, and terminology and able to relay complex information and terminology to non-technical audiences.

Previous experience of building working relationships with partner agencies.

Hold a full UK driving licence.

Desirable not essential:

Degree level qualification in relevant computing or security discipline, or equivalent experience.

Experience of working in support of PROTECT and PREVENT strands of the Crime Strategy.

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity. A minimum checkable history of 3 years is required for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.
