Cost Engineer / Controller - Warrington - 12 Months +

Job Purpose
The Cost Controller will join the UK SMR delivery team and support the Project Manager and team in minimising deviation from the budget and ensure that the project is completed within the approved budget.

The Cost Controller will be responsible for monitoring and controlling the project costs, this will include interfaces with planning and forecasting of the projects budget.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Provide and manage the cost framework, systems and resources to deliver an effective cost control and reporting service to Project Managers and Sponsors.
  • Compilation of cost estimates from first principles, ensuring that the estimate is underpinned by norms, quotes and any other information forming the basis of estimate.
  • To assist with quantifying the financial risks associated with project workstreams, including but not limited to 3 point estimating and supporting quantitative risk analysis exercises where necessary.
  • Advising on the cost impact of schedule change and variations, liaising with the Commercial Function as required
  • Comprehensive reporting of project financial performance through the provision of financial reports based on data analysis, variance analysis against baselines and cost control data
  • Monitoring of Project Commitment, and monthly submission of project accruals.
  • Provision of financial forecasting data, including earned value analysis, identifying critical areas and trends and recommend recovery options.
  • Maintain an estimate of the outturn value of the project and prepare the EAC for review and approval.
  • Identification of cost trends outside of the forecast and providing support in the identification of the root cause of such trends
  • Active project cost control, management of cost codes in response to change and variations.
  • Implementing best practices as defined by the Delivery PMO and/or agreed project/programme governance arrangements
Qualifications & Experience
  • A least 5 years’ experience of working in a project delivery environment
  • Knowledge of cost control systems, processes and methodologies
  • Experience with IT systems and proficient in the use of the MS Office suite
  • Experience of working alongside project managers, project controls, document control and other similar functions
  • Proven experience as Cost Controller, preferably on large and/or complex projects
  • In depth understanding of cost control procedures.
  • It is essential that a depth knowledge and demonstrated experience in Project Controls is specific to this role. The role will be required to work across UK SMR Portfolio, cost control at project and portfolio level. Working within programmes of work with complex commercial management and reporting to key customers. The projects will be multi-million-pound deliverables and consist of multiple interlinked integrated projects, often requiring delivery in complex facilities.
  • The candidate must be SQEP in the processes/procedures and software within the PMO. This is essential to allow a smooth transition into the business area.
