About the Opportunity

Our Nuclear Power Programmes is delivering client critical works to some of our major UK and Europe Projects. Our key projects are delivering support to Hinkley Point C (New build power station in the South West), Sizewell C (located in the South East), helping develop technologies to develop SMR (Small modular Reactor) capability and working towards building Poland’s first Nuclear Power station.

Working in both client facing and internal roles we are delivery major programme and project management capabilities throughout the project lifecycle. With our clients are the heart of our work, we are driving to deliver safe, high quality and to time solutions by thinking innovatively and working collaboratively with our client.

Jacobs are seeking a Conventional Safety Lead to support our Client in ensuring that all Hinkley Point C activities are conducted in a way that protects the health and safety of the workforce and the public in line with our Zero Harm ambition.

This role will be part of the Health, Safety and Learning function (HSL), which resides within the Safety and Regulation Directorate. The health and safety members of the HSL function act to ensure that the obligations of the Client under Construction (Design Management) Regulations 2015 are discharged in a manner of both legal compliance and support to the Principal Contractor, Principal Designer and Contract Partners. Key responsibilities will be:

  • Responsible for ensuring the Project’s compliance with the obligations as stated in Construction (Design Management) Regulations 2015, in specific reference to the Client role
  • Support the Project’s health and safety management process, procedures, standards and systems within the Integrated Management System to ensure that health and safety risks are managed proportionately
  • Interface with external certification bodies and/or regulators as required
  • Undertake audits, reviews, and assessments to identify and share best practices and shortcomings in arrangements to ensure that the project delivers to safety, quality, cost, and programme
  • Report on the status of health and safety on the project as required
  • Ensuring high standards and quality of the Client’s arrangements in relation to managing health and safety
  • Support the project’s compliance with Nuclear Site Licence condition LC7 (investigate incidents) by way of ensuring the correct recording and classification of health and safety events, thereby triggering a proportionate investigative and corrective response
  • Help drive capture of innovation and best practice for health and safety on the project via leveraging of experience and existing network, seeking information via industry channels, and embracing the HPC Way behavioural programme
Here’s What You’ll Need:
  • NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety. Membership of Institution of Occupational Health and Safety (IOSH) and/or EIT working towards Chartership
  • Experience of engineering projects and common challenges and opportunities
  • Knowledge of Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, with significant experience in the practical application in an operational setting
  • Detailed knowledge of health & safety practices within the construction industry
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and written skills for a variety of audiences, coupled with attention to detail
  • Familiar with working in a high hazard industry
  • Detailed knowledge of legal obligations within the construction industry for health and safety, allied to broad experience in interacting with regulators
  • Strong knowledge of statistical analysis and data presentation
  • Experience with contractor management and engagement
