The Content Engineer wil / XML Developer support content modeling, authoring tool configuration, transformation development using XSL, and output process customization and configuration within our XML based content management system, RSuite. The environment supports an MS Word to DITA4Publishers XML to InDesign, HTML, EPUB and PDF outputs. The position will be responsible for overseeing the creation, configuration and maintenance of the content transformation lifecycle. Integrating XSL into RSuite using Java.
Experience and Skills:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Carrying out content analysis and creating content conversion specifications and guidelines for MS Word, XML, InDesign, EPUB, HTML and EPUB
  • Configuration, administration, and support for the Microsoft Word Styles > DITA > InDesign/EPUB/PDF/HTML transformation system
  • Maintain and develop XSL transforms to support new product types and features, ensuring best practice followed for producing and storage of scripts
  • Liaising/negotiating with content architecture/editorial/creation/best practice teams to ensure content integrity across content sets (correct application of mark-up, style usage conformity, consistency across content sets and enforcing of best practice)
  • Quality assurance of content and validation according to business rules through DTD and Schema tools
  • Providing technical guidance and support for content and content systems including:
  • Resolution of support incidents and requests including monitoring support queue, allocating calls, and ensuring timely resolution of incidents
  • Analytical support of content management systems and associated tools
  • Content error resolution
  • Creating and maintaining macros and tools to automate processes.
  • Documentation and training for end users
  • Other Duties as required
Mandatory Requirements & Qualifications:
  • Ability to legally work in the U.K
  • A Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related technical field.
  • Experience with content markup using Microsoft Word styles, XML tagging, InDesign, EPUB, PDF, HTML
  • Advanced knowledge of XML Schema/DTD and XSL development
  • Experience with DITA or DITA4Publishers a plus
  • Strong XML development skills: XSD, XPath and XSLT are a must.
  • Java skills, including J2EE and XQuery (Preferred).
  • Ability to work independently, with a strong focus on problem solving and identification of systemic issues that can lead to an optimized process or workflow.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude and willingness to help resolve a wide range of issues.
  • Ability to work with various size teams across the organization.
  • Publishing experience required.
  • Strong attention to detail, including the ability to accurately follow detailed instructions.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel.
  • Computer savvy enough to develop new computer skills as needed.
  • Reliable, tactful, and diplomatic.

Work Hours & Location:

This is a full-time position, working hours 9.00 am – 5.30 pm with 1-hour unpaid lunch. Office location Sutton, Surrey.
