Are you an Established Consultant Psychiatrist or looking for the next step to becoming a Consultant? Are you dedicated and passionate about improving mental health services and looking for your next role as a dynamic clinical leader? We are seeking to appoint someone like you, who will be able to provide senior medical input and leadership to the St. Andrew’s Inpatient Ward. You will be encouraged and supported to be involved in service leadership management and to develop an area of special clinical interest in line with service requirements.

About St Andrew’s Ward

St Andrews Ward is a 14 bedded ward which admits adults from the Mendip locality, with a population of approximately 114,000. There are 275 admissions per 100,000 adult population in Somerset.

This Consultant post does not include any other community responsibilities. There are 3.5 WTE consultants in CMHS and 0.6 WTE in Home Treatment team (HTT) in Mendip Adult Mental Health services. There are future plans for St Andrews Ward to be combined with one of our other inpatient wards, meaning you will have a fantastic team supporting you in this role.

It follows a series of initiatives that we’ve introduced that have changed the way we develop and plan our mental health services – by listening to and involving patients themselves. The HSJ judges said they were looking for trusts which offer excellent, patient-centric care built on strong engagement between clinicians within and beyond the organisation.

About The Trust

Somerset NHS Foundation Trust is the first NHS trust on the English mainland to provide community, mental health and acute hospital services. We work with health and social care partners in Somerset to ensure that we deliver outstanding services that meet the needs of our population.

Our trust was formed on 1 April 2020 when Somerset Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust merged. We provide community and mental health services across the whole of Somerset and acute hospital services in the north, west and centre of the county and beyond.

Location

St Andrews Ward is located in the beautiful city of Wells is the smallest city in England, and is located in the heart of Somerset between the Somerset Levels and the Mendip Hills – an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Wells offers a thriving high street, holding local markets twice a week, along with a fantastic choice of restaurants and cafes. Wells is also home to many important building including Wells Cathedral and the moated Bishops Palace and Gardens.

There is a range of local amenities including Wells Leisure Centre, Wells Rugby Club, Tennis Club, Bowling Club and Golf course; along with the regular annual festivals for Music, Literature, Art and Food.

Wells offers easy access to the major nearby centre of Bristol, Bath, Taunton and Yeovil. There is also the local bus station offering daily services to London, and mainline trains run from Castle Cary stations, and Bristol International Airport can be reaching with 35 mins. Wells offers excellent state and independent schools; Wells Blue School. Strode College, Downside School, Millfield School and All Hallows.
