Job OverviewSomerset NHS Foundation Trust have an exciting opportunity within our haematology department. We are inviting applications for:2 Consultant Clinical HaematologistsThese posts are primarily based at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton, but all consultants contribute to a county wide service that will include visiting sessions at Yeovil District Hospital. There is flexibility within our existing team to welcome applicants with either a malignant or haemostasis/thrombosis subspecialty interest and for individuals to develop subspecialty interests within these subsites. Following successful recruitment to these posts the on-call commitment is currently 1 in 6 weeks and this will move to 1 in 7 when all posts are filled.Although these are full time posts, we would be happy to discuss the option of working less than full time on an individual basis. To be eligible for this post you should have your CCT or be within 6 months of obtaining it.Main duties of the jobYou will join our current team of seven consultant haematologists, one specialty doctor, two SpRs, one CT1 , 4 CNSs, one Advanced Practitioner and a Cancer Support Worker based at Musgrove Park Hospital with two CNSs and a Clinical Support Worker based at Yeovil Hospital. The team provide a high quality service in clinical and laboratory haematology. The consultant team contribute to a County wide service that may include visiting sessions and on call commitments at Yeovil District Hospital .We provide a BCSH level 2b service in a specific 12 bed ward. We have full JACIE accreditation to provide an autologous stem cell transplantation service led by a transplant director, full time transplant CNS and data manager. The allograft service is provided by Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI) with which we have close links, including a regular transplant MDT.There is full CPA accredited laboratory provision including haemostasis and transfusion. Marrow reporting is performed locally with FACS and cytogenetics provided by North Bristol in its role as a SHIMDS. We provide a comprehensive Pan-Somerset haematology MDT provision serving a population of over 500,000.We also provide a haemophilia service and a Teenage and Young Adult (TYA) service in conjunction with the regional centres based at BRI. We provide undergraduate teaching to students from Bristol and Peninsula medical schools.Working for our organisationSomerset NHS Foundation Trust is the first NHS trust on the English mainland to provide community, mental health and acute hospital services. We are working closely with our colleagues at Yeovil District Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to facilitate the planned merger of the two Trusts, which is expected to go live on 1 st April 2023.Facilities for the treatment of cancer in Taunton are provided in the state of the art Beacon Centre which is able to also provide a comprehensive radiotherapy.Facilities in Yeovil are based in theOncology and Haematology Day Unit situated at St Margaret’s Hospice providing designated outpatient and day case treatment.LocationThe Southwest of England is a highly desirable place to live and practice located between areas of outstanding natural beauty.
