As part of UK Research and Innovation, the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) is one of Europe’s largest research organisations and operates at a number of sites within the UK, including the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL) and many more around the world.
Our Technology Department within STFC provides advanced technology and engineering in support of both STFC funded activities and other high profile international projects.
About The Role
We have an excellent opportunity for a Communications Assistant to provide support to the Technology Department. Working with the PA to the Director you will work closely with senior staff supporting a wide range of activities to ensure the smooth running and evolution of the department.
Your responsibilities will include researching and writing content for internal department publications providing material for staff talks and newsletters. You will have day to day responsibility for maintaining and updating the department webpages, and write news articles for the department newsletter and social media channels. You will also arrange and attend monthly communications meetings with key representatives within the department.
In addition you will also provide administrative support to two Division Heads, including organising workshops/meetings and taking minutes, assisting with the annual appraisal review, and arranging travel.
About You
You should be educated to a minimum of A Level (or equivalent) standard, and have significant administration experience, including familiarity of writing reports and minute writing.
While scientific or technical experience or qualifications are not required, you will display an ability to work in a technical environment, where using often obscure but precise ’jargon’ is important. With an excellent eye for detail, you will be a confident proof-reader, able to spot a typo in an instant, as well as being happy to create content from scratch.
The role requires a proactive individual who is able to make decisions and use their own initiative. You will demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and have an organised approach to work.
