Are you interested in working for an organisation making a real difference to the lives of young blind and partially sighted people? If so, this Communication Support Worker role could be perfect for you.

Communication Support Worker - BSL

Orpington and Bromley

  • Full time, term time (part time negotiable), permanent
  • £37,858 per annum FTE

Please Note: Applicants must be authorised to work in the UK

Our client, a charity dedicated to supporting blind children and their families, believes that every blind young person should have the chance to live life without limits. Their values of Trust, Energy, Ambition, and Motivation underpin everything they do. By giving young people the essential skills to take control of their lives, they can unleash their true potential.

About the role:

Our client is looking for a BSL Communication Support Worker to provide 1-1 support to a student who is profoundly deaf, registered blind and uses BSL as their main form of communication.

The main purpose of this role is to support the delivery of learning programmes delivered at a partnership college in Bromley and from the college student hub in Orpington on study days.

You will support the student to access lessons and encourage independent learning skills as well as produce adapted classroom resources.

The ideal candidate:

Our client would love to hear from you if you hold or are working towards a Level 3 BSL qualification.

Your experience of working with young people with multisensory impairment is crucial for this role. Your work with deaf young people in an educational, care setting, or support role will have provided you with knowledge and skills that you can carry forward into this position.

If your experiences directly relate to vision impairment in an SEN environment, that would be highly advantageous.

Benefits:

In return, you can expect to receive a range of generous benefits, including:

  • Competitive annual leave allowance of 27 days (rising to 28 days after 3 years’ service) + bank holidays
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Perkbox
  • Flexible working opportunities
  • 3% contribution towards pension
  • Season ticket loan
  • Welcoming, diverse, and inclusive workforce
  • Disability Confident Employer
  • Silver Award in Investors in People (2023)
  • Rated “Good” by Ofsted (2018) across all areas
