The Centre for Continuous Manufacturing and Advanced Crystallisation (CMAC) is a world-class centre of excellence for advanced crystallisation and pharmaceutical manufacturing research, training and translation. Working in partnership with industry, CMAC’s goal is to transform the development and manufacture of medicines through the development and exploitation of digital design and advanced manufacturing technologies. Our portfolio of activity is focussed on four key pillars to deliver: high quality manufacturing research; the workforce of the future through skills development and training; effective translation of research into industry and, to continue to develop our world leading facilities and Lab of the Future infrastructure. Further details can be found in our 2021-2026 Strategy (www.cmac.ac.uk).

CMAC’s extensive research portfolio includes the flagship EPSRC Future Manufacturing Research Hub, led by the University of Strathclyde involving collaborations with spokes at leading UK academic institutions (Bath, Cambridge, Imperial College, Leeds, Loughborough, Sheffield). The Hub and other projects also bring a network of links with international centres in the US, Europe and Far East. A recent major addition to the funded research portfolio is the Made Smarter Innovation – Digital Medicines Manufacturing Research Centre (DM2) that will focus on accelerating the adoption of industrial digital technologies (IDTs) in medicines development and manufacturing. Through the University of Strathclyde, CMAC is also a strategic research partner for the Centre for Process Innovation’s (CPI) recently established Medicines Manufacturing Innovation Centre (MMIC) creating further mechanisms to deliver impact from our research.

CMAC are now seeking to grow our team and applications are invited for a highly motivated, enthusiastic IT Support Technician to support staff and students with all aspects of IT hardware and software. Our facilities house a comprehensive range of laboratory equipment (around 200 items), each with a varied requirement of IT systems and data infrastructure. These are located across multiple labs in the Technology Innovation Centre, often within a multi-user context and IT support is a critical aspect both now and moving forward with our ambitious expansion plans. You will liaise with the appropriate IT staff/teams locally, within the Department, Faculty and University to ensure that all systems comply with the necessary regulatory frameworks and standards. The successful candidate will have a proven record of IT experience in a university environment or similar and will provide day-to-day support for the broad CMAC research community as well as managing and maintaining core systems including server storage, ELN (electronic lab notebook) and license servers.

You will have an HNC or HND qualification along with relevant professional qualifications in an IT related discipline with extensive experience. Sufficient breadth or depth of knowledge in IT systems, PC build/deployment/imaging and cloning software at scale, as well as Windows installation and configuration is essential, as is a broad knowledge of managing/supporting Microsoft 365 applications. The successful candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to demonstrate independent decision making, in addition to prioritisation and scheduling their own workload. The candidate must have strong problem-solving abilities, demonstrating innovation and creativity in dealing with IT challenges.

This is an exciting and challenging position which will provide an ambitious and committed candidate with the opportunity to broaden their IT knowledge within a vibrant environment working on ambitious collaborative projects at the academia-industry interface to deliver real impact.

Formal interviews for this post will be held in May 2023.
