Summary

We are seeking an experienced Community Nurse with a specialised interested in ostomy or a colorectal surgical background to join our clinical team.

As a Clinical Nurse Specialist you will be responsible for providing advice on all aspects of Stoma care, ensuring a quality service across the region in accordance with the stoma care service specification and associated contract.

The post holder acts as a Stoma Nursing Services Specialist providing specialist support and advice on all aspects of Stoma Care, including pre-operative counselling, inpatient teaching (where applicable) and community follow up, in accordance with the Secure Start Accredited Pathway.

Responsibilities
  • To provide specialist clinical advice on the safe provision of a stoma care nursing service.
  • To be responsible for the safe and effective delivery of care within the designated area ensuring a high standard of patient care in liaison with stakeholders

evaluating and reviewing patterns of working, giving professional support where necessary.

To ensure that care is provided in accordance with a structured pathway of care that is measurable and evidence based.
  • To take a lead role in the training and development of staff and ensuring the needs of students are met.
  • To ensure that the policies and practice procedures of Hollister and any other NHS Organisation are adhered to.
  • To participate in discussion and the operation of research programmes affecting patients and the service.
  • To be responsible for the delivery of service within the designated area within the agreed financial budget.
  • To foster good communication links and co-operation between Community Nurses, Ward Managers and other disciplines and departments.
  • Ensure timely and accurate entry of data into appropriate patient record keeping systems that meet the requirements of data protection and ensure that company liability is within current regulation
  • Support the introduction of new products and provide opportunities for end users to review.
  • Work with Company Nurse Supervisor to set annual clinical objectives and track regularly to ensure timely completion.


Essential Functions & Educational Requirements of the Role**:
  • NMC registration
  • A minimum of two years post registration experience
  • Community or District Nursing experience
  • Specialist stoma or colorectal experience/interest
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work autonomously
  • Car Driver Essential (Home visits will be required)


Specialized Skills/Technical Knowledge
  • Knowledge of and ability to demonstrate a research based holistic approach to client care.
  • An understanding of financial control and ability to manage a service within its budget.
  • Knowledge of and ability to demonstrate current stoma care nursing practice and statutory requirements.
  • Ability to keep up-to-date with educational, professional and clinical developments.
  • Can establish priorities, and organize own workload.
  • Good communication skills across all levels and disciplines within the organization, with families and other members of the public.
  • Can demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment to the development of the service
  • An understanding of financial control and ability to manage a service within its budget.
