The Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust provides acute treatment and care for a catchment population of around 500,000 people in Bath, North East Somerset and West Wiltshire. We provide 759 beds and a comprehensive range of acute services including medicine and surgery, services for women and children, accident and emergency services, and diagnostic and clinical support services. The CQC recently rated the care we provide as outstanding .

New colleagues can look forward to a warm welcome and a future full of opportunities at our Trust. You will work alongside high calibre staff, many of whom have a national and international reputation for specialist expertise and world-class care, focusing on providing the best services to our patients. Our values are simple; Everyone Matters, Working Together, Making a Difference, and represent our aspiration for the type of hospitals we want to be.

Bath is a wonderful place to live and work. Our main hospital site is 1.5 miles from the city centre and is served by great transport links including Park & Ride services and the national cycle route 24, 244. Bath offers excellent leisure and shopping facilities, and a thriving cultural scene.

We are looking to appoint two Clinical Fellows, at StR level, for 12 months, starting August 2022. These are additional mid grade posts that have been developed to help support junior doctor staffing on the Respiratory ward and outlying beds under the Respiratory team during a period where there will be less rotational SpRs available compared to usual.

The postholders will carry out a variety of inpatient work, including looking after patients on ventilatory support such as CPAP, BIPAP and nasal high flow, managing patients with chest drains, providing specialty reviews for outliers under other teams and leading weekday ward rounds. The postholders will also join the other SpRs in providing regular Consultant-supervised General Respiratory outpatient clinics throughout the week. There will also be opportunities to develop subspecialty expertise, through sitting in in subspecialty clinics and MDTs. There will also be an opportunity to develop training in bronchoscopy, pleural aspiration and chest drain insertion.

One of the posts carries an on call GIM commitment, at SpR level. The other post currently has no on call or out of hours commitments, although a slot on the GIM rota at SpR level may be available to the successful candidate, if they are keen to pursue this.

The posts would suit anyone considering a career in Respiratory medicine and who is in the process of applying for a rotational SpR post.

The posts are advertised for 12 months (August 2022 to August 2023).
