East Calder Primary School is a non-denominational school serving the village of East Calder and the surrounding community. The school sits within the West Calder High School cluster. At present, the total school roll is 399 pupils including a nursery provision for 60 children in the morning/afternoon and full day sessions. There is a growing school role due to the considerable number of new houses being built within the community.

There are 18 members of teaching staff, 2 EYOs and 16 staff within our Nursery Team, 3 specialists - Drama, PE and Technology and a team of 8 pupil support workers who also work directly with the children. The school management team consists of the head teacher; depute head teacher and principal teacher. The school shares a business support manager with the other schools in the cluster.

The school works very closely with the West Calder High School cluster schools. There are well developed and mutually successful and supportive partnership links with local community groups and businesses. The school has earned a very good reputation within the community and is very well supported by the parent council and the wider parent forum.

The school has achieved level 2 of the Right Respecting Schools Award and is has Eco Green flag award and Fair Trade status.

  • All learners receive consistently well-planned learning and teaching providing appropriate challenge, differentiation and pace in numeracy.
  • All pupils are becoming increasingly aware of the skills that they are developing through their learning and can confidently express how they are developing said skills explaining their purpose in future learning, life and work.
At East Calder Primary, you will become part of a hardworking and committed staff team. You will work in close partnership with the Senior Leadership Team and the Administrative Assistant.

This position requires registration with the SSSC. The successful candidate will have six months from commencement in this post to register with the SSSC. If you are already registered with SSSC you will be required to add West Lothian Council to your account

This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by West Lothian Council.
