Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated, high calibre individual to manage and strategically develop our Aseptic Dispensing Unit. The role would be suited to a highly experienced, aseptically qualified Pharmacy Technician.

You will be responsible for managerial and operational issues within the Aseptic Dispensing Unit team, as well as developing and implementing operational policies, procedures and services in line with the requirements of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP). You will also assist the Aseptic Services Manager in scoping and delivering aseptic projects.

The Aseptic Dispensing Unit operates under Section 10 exemption and also holds a MHRA ’Specials’ licence. You will lead the team in the preparation and supply of a wide range of aseptic products including parenteral nutrition, clinical trials, chemotherapy and CIVAs.


Main duties of the job

This is a demanding but rewarding role which requires excellent management and prioritisation skills and an ability to communicate at all levels both within and outside of the organisation.

You must be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council and have previous team management experience. The successful candidate would require previous aseptic experience and knowledge of GMP.

Job summary

  • Assist the Aseptic Services Manager in the management of the staff, Quality System, resources and premises of the Aseptic Dispensing Unit (ADU).
  • Ensure the provision of aseptically prepared medicines and related products is timely, cost effective and compliant with stringent quality standards.
  • Facilitate the training and development of the ADU staff.
  • Deputise in the absence of the Aseptic Services Manager for the technical aspects of the role.
  • Named as Production Manager on the MHRA Specials Licence.
  • Co-operate in the provision and development of an efficient and effective pharmaceutical service.

  • Knowledge and understanding of GMP and QA and its application to aseptic processing.
  • Experience of managing and supervising a team, including all levels of human resource management.
  • Experience in using Pharmacy computer systems.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of MHRA licensed units.
  • Experience of JAC pharmacy system and PAS systems.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BTEC NC / NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Service Skills or GPhC recognised equivalent
  • Registered as a practising Pharmacy Technician with the GPhC
  • BTEC Professional Development Certificate in Dispensing Technician Checking / Final Accuracy Checking Technician (Technical Services), or recognised equivalent, or awaiting verification of qualification.
  • Aseptic Preparation and Dispensing of Medicines course.
  • Post-graduate Certificate in Management / NVQ Level 4, National Development Scheme for Senior Pharmacy Technicians Cert or equivalent leadership qualification, or equivalent experience, or willingness to undertake a qualification.
Desirable criteria
  • Pharmaceutical Technology and Quality Assurance course, or willingness to undertake the qualification.
  • BTEC Professional Diploma in Aseptic Services or equivalent.
