An opportunity has arisen for a Chief Engineer (Active Inceptor Systems) based at our site in Rochester, within the Engineering organisation.
Working within our Electronics Systems Sector, the role is required to provide domain expertise across the entire lifecycle. As Chief Engineer you will work in close alignment with the Head of Engineering and report to the Deputy Engineering Director.
This role will provide you with the opportunity to provide proactive support and coaching to the Product Group at all levels and from pre-bid through to production/support
Your Main Responsibilities As a Chief Engineer Will Involve
- Ensure that Technical Marketing activities are appropriate to develop technology that delivers both product and technology roadmaps
- Work closely with the Head of Engineering and Product Line Director to define and agree overall strategies – and implement them
- Remain up to date with key technology developments and roadmaps relating to the domain
- Develop and maintain internal and external relationships with technology strategic partners, customers and working groups
- Support the execution of development programmes by providing proactive coaching and promoting sound engineering practices with consideration of cost/schedule impacts
- Manage the level of product knowledge and know-how within the Product Group
- Contribute to the application and evolution of Rochester Engineering processes as part of the Chief Engineers group
- Support the Head of Engineering with ensuring that lifecycle management activities are applied appropriately to all activities within the Product Group
- Provide Product Safety Certificate (PSC) authorisation for delivered products
- Provide Design Approval for agreed programmes
- Deep technical understanding of Airborne Electro-Mechanical products and able to review at an appropriate level all related disciplines
- Experience in the certification of Safety Critical Systems
- Evidence of coaching numerous Engineers throughout their career journeys across the organisation
- Pragmatic application of sound Engineering principles to support the business
- Has held a Design Authority or equivalent role throughout the whole development lifecycle
- Qualification to Degree/HNC level in an engineering related discipline
- Experience of working in different areas bringing a breadth as well as depth to the role
- Direct experience working with Active Inceptor Systems
- Chartered Engineer or equivalent status
- High level of integrity and ability to make difficult decisions
- Passionate for success with a can-do attitude
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships
- Proven strength in organisational and personal communication skills
