We are seeking the next wave of early career scientists to make an impact and influence the agenda. We want to embed your skills, drive and curiosity into our Cell Biology and Immunology team. This is an outstanding opportunity to join a fast-growing team within a vibrant environment focused on advancing oncology cellular therapies and making the next scientific breakthrough.

What you’ll do

You’ll focus on developing immune cell engineering technologies by CRISPR genome editing tool to help build our next generation Chimeric Antigen Receptor cellular therapies.

This is a laboratory-based role, where you will craft and lead experiments to progress our Immunoediting pipeline for CAR therapies. As part of our innovative team, you will also be supported and encouraged to contribute to the improvement of current genetic manipulation technologies. You will collaborate and share knowledge cross-functionally and develop a strong scientific reputation, taking the initiative, and kick starting your career, with all the support and backing of a global, science-led biopharmaceutical business.

You’ll have the opportunity to maintain scientific excellence, presenting data to key collaborators and colleagues internally and at external conferences, and publishing in peer-reviewed journals. Working within AstraZeneca’s Discovery Sciences unit, you’ll be joining a community of scientists with broad technological expertise dedicated to drug discovery.

Essential Criteria

• BSc or MSc in cell biology, molecular biology or equivalent experience
• At least 1 year of lab-based experience with culturing, transfection and phenotypic analysis of immune cell types or other cell models, molecular biology or equivalent experience
• Gene editing techniques
• Strong experimental design and problem-solving skills
• Excellent team working, communication and networking skills with experience of interacting effectively across interfaces of discipline, culture and expertise.

Desirable Criteria

Experience with any of the following:

• Cellular, DNA and protein-based assays using a variety of technologies for measuring disease-relevant phenotypes in immune cells
• Creating and/or working with primary immune cells or complex cell models of human disease
• Previous work with Chimeric Antigen Receptor T cells (CAR-T)
