What’s the purpose of the role?

RM Resources are a £120m division of RM Plc, offering products and services to enrich the lives of learners worldwide. Our range of resources underpin the successful operation of school and nursery settings and provide everything that teachers and nursery practitioners need to support a child’s learning and development. We sell our products under our two consumer-facing brands, Consortium and TTS, through our websites and catalogues.

We are looking to recruit a Category Manager for our Furniture product portfolio. You must be commercially minded, with experience of profitably managing a large portfolio of products and curating a range to meet all consumer needs.

Reporting directly into the Head of Furniture & Facilities you will be primarily responsible for:
  • Delivering the future Furniture strategy in line with our overall strategic pillars
  • Curating a range of products relevant for each of our brands
  • Driving innovation in the furniture category
  • New product development
  • Mentoring and managing a furniture product manager
What does the job entail?
  • Lead and manage a commercially significant product portfolio and work effectively across internal departments to ensure success and growth of range
  • Developing, refining and presenting commercially significant product ranges that deliver our strategic goals and business objectives whilst ensuring profitable sales growth across all markets
  • Making decisions based on product performance, trends, market activities that will enable you to define our product ranges and further enhance our portfolio with new factored products whilst reviewing and optimising existing product ranges
  • Responsible for working closing with our Product Innovation Team to create and present our unique proposition through new product development and hard to finds
  • Understand our external market environment, including customers, industry bodies and market insight, to ensure we understand customer requirements and how we can delight them at all times, to deliver a market leading proposition for furniture through product range, pricing, campaigns and undiscovered opportunities
  • Represent the division and the company at exhibitions and events
Producing and analysing accurate and effective range analysis reports for both brands on a monthly basis

What are we looking for?

You will have a passion for the best product combined with strong consumer focus and commercial awareness, utilising these skills to identify product opportunities that meet the needs of current and future customers.
  • Substantial multi-channel Product Management experience, preferably gained within Education Resources, Retail or FMCG Knowledge of the education market would be useful
  • Results oriented and highly organised with a track record of delivering against targets and deadlines
  • Excellent analytical and IT skills – able to use numerical data and market information to make commercially viable product and pricing recommendations in line with strategic goals
  • Commercially creative
  • Tactful and diplomatic – able to vary communication style to build effective internal and external relationships
  • Proactive problem solver who demonstrates an eye for detail and is a completer finisher
  • Relevant professional qualifications or experience would be advantageous
  • Full UK driving licence
