Capita is looking for Campus Operations Director- Based in Moreton In Marsh

We currently have an exciting new role to join our experienced and friendly team at the Fire Service College as FSC Campus Operations Director .The successful candidate will play a significant role in this process in partnership with Capita Group Property and other internal and external stakeholders.

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly experienced, commercially savvy and people focused leader to play a key role in transforming the College where you will have full accountability for the department’s budget (OPEX & CAPEX).

What you’ll be doing:


  • Departmental responsibilities for all enabling functions, such as training ground management, residential accommodation, learning environment (classrooms, specialist laboratories, lecture theatres etc), offices, welfare facilities, restaurants, bars/coffee shops, workshops, sports/leisure centre, security, facilities management (soft and hard), assurance/compliance, office tenants, fleet management, workshops, technology, purchasing/stores and events management. Several key services have been outsourced to third-party providers.
  • Act in an advisory role to the Managing Director on matters relating to the operational infrastructure and third-party suppliers, with ability to deputise as appropriate.
  • Management of third-party suppliers in conjunction with Capita Group Property or other parts of Capita. Ensure value for money, contractual compliance, and effective performance from outsourced service providers and other suppliers.
  • Work with Capita Group Property in developing the annual infrastructure investment plan, co-author business plans and co-chair regular spending reviews.
  • Establish the future Campus Strategy to enable the site to move towards NetZero ambitions, deliver high quality learner and staff accommodation/welfare facilities and regenerate its existing infrastructure.
  • Developing long term vision and strategy and translating this into departmental annual business plan to ensure success.
  • Enable the learning delivery team by providing fit-for-purpose facilities and learning infrastructure aligned with the College’s overall strategy and CAPEX plan.

What we’re looking for:


  • Experience of running complex estates/campuses. Experience of dealing with legacy infrastructure challenges is highly desirable.
  • A background in further or higher education or similar environments is highly desirable.
  • Excellent leadership & management skills (ideally with direct/indirect responsibility for 50 or more people) with a strong emphasis on building successful teams and delegating responsibilities.
  • Experience of running multi-million Pound budgets/P&Ls (ideally £20m p.a. plus).
  • Evidence of commercial acumen and effective third-party contract management.
  • Ability to develop strategic plans.
  • Management of complex stakeholder structures and proven ability to work in a highly matrix organisation.
  • Ability to think strategically whilst also dealing with day-to-day operational challenges.
  • Delivers under pressure.
  • Familiar with environmental, HSE, safeguarding and other relevant rules, legislations and regulations.
  • Desirable to have experience in capital build and development.
  • Other considerations:
  • The successful candidate will either live within commuting distance of the College or be willing to eventually re-locate (interim Monday to Friday accommodation can be made available for a limited period and a relocation package is available).
  • Some business travel may be required, such as meetings with suppliers.
  • The successful candidate will be required to successfully pass an enhanced DBS check and be able to obtain and maintain a basic level of security clearance (SC level is desirable).
