Do you have a sense of what makes a good press story? And the persistence to keep on pitching after rejections?

Would you like to work with a team that publishes fantastic non-fiction writers like Dr Rangan Chatterjee, Philippa Perry, Sathnam Sanghera and Simon Sinek?

If so, we are recruiting for a Campaigns Officer (Non-Fiction) to join our Penguin General team on a permanent basis, with a focus on securing PR for our science, business and smart-thinking titles, to join our award-winning team.

Penguin General achieved remarkable results last year, despite unprecedented challenges. Our multi award-winning Communications team was central to our success, delivering sales-driving campaigns over and over again.

In this role, you’ll be pitching for national PR coverage across print, broadcast and online outlets and timing that coverage to form attention grabbing campaigns to launch new book releases. You will be pitching authors for features and interviews as well as organising events and press and influencer junkets, developing a strong database of key media contacts.

You’ll need to have an eye for what makes a good press story and be a strong team player. We’re looking for someone who is super organised and creative with great communication skills – you’ll be equally comfortable convincing people to read a book via tweets, emails, face-to-face or over the phone. We’re not worried about your current job title, and would love to hear from you if some of the following sound like you:

  • Experienced at securing PR coverage that has had an impact
  • Media-savvy and abreast of current media trends
  • Experienced at organising events or press junkets
  • Experienced at working with ‘talent’

You’ll be a crucial member of a fun, dynamic and supportive team and will be responsible for planning and implementing strategic PR campaigns that will be impactful and sales-driving.

If this sounds like you, please apply with CV and Cover Letter by midnight on Friday 6th August 2021.

  • As part of your Cover Letter, please tell us about a publicity campaign you’ve seen recently and why it caught your attention (this does not need to be book related).

Salary:
£28,000 - £29,700 depending on how your skills and experience align to the role, plus bonus and benefits.

We will be starting a trial of hybrid working across our company and we’re happy to discuss flexible working options at interview stage. This role will be based at our Vauxhall Bridge Road office.
