The Role

We are looking for a Bid Manager to join the MMD Business Winning team and take end to end responsibility for delivery of high-quality bid responses.

Your role will involve leading the bid team and the business to develop compelling winning propositions that realise our customers target outcomes and maintain our high standards of corporate integrity. As a Bid Manager you will manage all bidding activities in accordance with recognised bidding best practices from initial customer contact through to contract signature. This will involve working with your bid team to form and implement winning bid strategies and plans to enable submission of bid responses to requisite time, cost and quality standards. You will be expected to engage in continuous improvement activity to drive higher win rates across whilst expanding your own capabilities as a bid professional.

Job Description

  • To take lead responsibility for specific bids, manage bid delivery and the associated resources, and act as the single internal point of contact.
  • To manage the monitoring of frameworks across the Business Winning Team to ensure all potential opportunities are assessed in deciding to bid / no bid opportunities
  • To effectively manage a team in complex bid activities (including capture plans) through or in conjunction with the sales team and technical subject matter experts
  • To co-ordinate technical design, project management, commercial input, authorisation and formal document production and negotiations at senior levels, within major customer and supplier environments
  • Make day-to-day management decisions within the delegation of authority to keep bids on track.
  • Ensure that a formal bid governance and approvals process is adhered to through the timely provision of concise information and clear communication
  • To support the sales process by aligning the company’s capabilities and commercial strategy to the needs of our customers and prospects
  • To apply commercial knowledge to accurately build and model costs and prices for each bid including the assessment and mitigation of risks.

Your experience

Bid leadership and management – Demonstrable success in bidding to the defence and national security market (e.g. MOD, Agencies, suppliers to MOD).

Sector knowledge – An understanding of the MOD and security market core client base and the sensitivities generated by bidding at enhanced security classifications.

Leads the Bid and Bid Planning - Leads and motivates all members of the bid team to work together to achieve a successful outcome (win). Excellent Stakeholder Management skills, both internally and with third party suppliers. Develops a bid plan that supports the timely completion of all activities. Efficiently manages bid budget and authorization process.

Bid Strategy Development - Works with the Opportunity Owner to develop the win strategy and translates this into a supporting bid strategy and value proposition

Informs Qualification - Supports the Opportunity Owner in the qualification of each opportunity. Understands the client, the opportunity, competitors, challenges and the plan to execute the win strategy.

Response Development - Ensures the creation of exceptional capture plans and customer response documents through the development of storyboards that both provide response structure and supports the articulation of win themes. Monitors the development of the response to support the timely completion of quality review events when assessed against the Shipley best practice model or equivalent DNS standard.

Continuous Improvement - Ensure continuous improvement of bidding function through sharing of best practice, knowledge, experience and collateral.

The successful candidate will:

  • able to demonstrate team leadership
  • work to tight deadlines and turn bids around quickly
  • be skilled at stakeholder engagement
  • be a minimum of BPSS cleared with a commitment to obtain SC clearance within 3 months
