Band 8a or Band 7 Development Role, Clinical Psychology

Mental Health Services for Older People (MHSOP)

Are you someone who is interested in improving the psychological well-being of older people?

Would you enjoy having a diverse role which could include both therapy and neuropsychological skills?

We are looking to expand our established MHSOP Psychology team in Leicestershire. It is a fantastic opportunity to join us at an exciting time as we embark on developing our psychology pathways across the service as part of our Step-Up-To-Great campaign. We are advertising the post as 0.8wte but we are happy to discuss alternatives to this. We are looking for a band 8a psychologist but welcome applications from band 7 psychologists who could be appointed with an agreed development plan, working towards an 8a role in the future. Please see the attached document outlining the process used for preceptorship posts. This post would be to support the community pathway in either Leicester City or Charnwood but there may be the opportunity to work into other service areas and so please contact us should you wish to discuss this further.

You will join an established Psychology department consisting of Trainees, Assistant Psychologists, band 8a Clinical Psychologists, band 8b Clinical Psychologists and a Lead Consultant Clinical Psychologist. We are dedicated to working to support the psychological needs of older people and meet regularly for clinical discussion, peer support and exploration of relevant service issues. The department holds departmental CPD topic discussions, and you will be encouraged to pursue relevant training opportunities. The Psychology Team work to support all areas of the MHSOP service which includes Inpatient Services, Care home In-Reach Team, Memory Service, Young Onset Dementia Service and Community Mental Health Teams. We offer direct assessment, formulation and intervention with patients and their carers as well as supporting staff teams through case discussion, consultation, and reflective practice.

The Trust has excellent on-line and face-to-face training sessions and there is a process in place for applying for external training where required. The Trust also has a large Research and Development Team and support will be given to take part in relevant projects.

You will receive regular supervision from a senior clinical psychology colleague and there are several well-being initiatives and opportunities within the Trust which you will be encouraged to attend if they are of interest.

We have strong links to the University of Leicester Clinical Psychology Department offering teaching sessions, trainee placements and input to the development of the course curriculum. Our service is also part of a network of Clinical Psychologists who work within Leicestershire partnership NHS Trust including Adult Mental Health, Neuropsychology and Health Psychology, providing a source of information and support through an on-line forum.
