At Solihull Hospital things are changing. In Spring 2024, we open the Surgical Hub with six new theatres. These fantastic facilities will be used to reduce patient waiting times, deliver vital care pathways to those needing surgery while providing continued excellent patient care.

To meet this increasing demand we are recruiting a team of professionals within our well established Pre-Op Assessment Unit. You will join a team of enthusiastic and diligent professionals, who strive to optimise patients chronic diseases to ensure fitness for anaesthetic.

We are a nurse led service and this is an autonomous role which will see you take ownership and responsibility for your own clinic caseload and the patients you assess. You will analyse your patients assessments and investigate all results to determine a smooth journey on their per-operative pathway.

Led by senior sisters and the lead nurse you will be fully inducted into the unit, including three months clinical supervision and our in-house training package. You will be supported to attend the Pre-Operative Association Foundation course and expand your skills.

Main duties of the job

  • Assess the patient’s fitness for surgery
  • Identify anaesthetic/medical problems and refer appropriately for optimisation
  • Prevent on the day cancellations
