Surgical special care unit is a level 2 surgical area which comprises of 14 beds. We offer level 2 care to a variety of patients who require surgery for cancer pathways , vascular ,complex head and neck and spinal surgery. If you have some ward experience as a registered nurse or a newly qualified nurse this could be a fantastic learning opportunity for your development.If successful at interview you will be mentored for 8 weeks in a supernumerary position alongside another experienced Band 5 registered nurse and will gain insight and learning into the conditions we treat. You will gain understanding of the enhanced recovery and protocols of patient specific care .In addition you will have access to a profession nurse development team who will be involved in your learning process. This include some initial weekly study days providing education related to the nursing care administered . You will also have the opportunity to have access to the in house Critical care course with will provide additional growth and learning after 12 months.We are a small friendly and welcoming unit and have fantastic feedback from our student nurses . We have regular patient forums which are very positive for the team when patients come back with feed bacBand 5 Registered nurseEach Registered nurse provides care on a ratio of 1:2You will be trained in delivering excellent patient care and complex care needs to patients requiring level 2 care. You will be delivering complex care to a variety of patients and have access to the MDT who provide a wealth of knowledge .Each shift is supervised by a senior nurse providing knowledge and support to each nurse .University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust is one of the largest and most modern in the country.
