About the Role:

We seek an enthusiastic Associate Scientist to join expand our team. You will be working in our research facility in Kent. You will use your knowledge of botany and molecular biology to assist in development of new varieties for the production of cannabinoids. This will be a hands-on role requiring both glasshouse and laboratory work, together with data analysis and some administrative duties related to the planning and execution of plant breeding trials.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development and evaluation of new plant varieties for the production of pharmaceuticals
  • Score phenotypic traits related to the agronomic performance of plants during both growth phase and post-harvest as well as the processing of samples for downstream analysis.
  • Extract plant DNA and obtain genotype data
  • Analyse data from trials
  • Ensure efficient use of glasshouse facilities
  • Maintain timely and accurate records of results
  • Work in close partnership with colleagues in Plant Breeding, Horticulture, and Botanical Characterization teams
  • Exhibit highly effective teamworking and communication skills
  • Maintain the highest standards of health and safety
  • Occasional travel (<10%) to monitor trials at external sites

Essential Skills:

  • BSc/MSc in Plant Sciences, Agronomy or Plant Breeding
  • Excellent numeracy skills and a good understanding of statistics
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft packages including Excel

Desirable

:

  • Experience working with crops
  • Experience with DNA extraction and genotyping assays
  • Experience of performing phenotypic measurements on plants
  • Experience with GC
