The Trust is looking to appoint an Associate Chief Executive, who in due course, is expected

to have overall responsibility for running the charity.

Recognising that there is work to be done to ensure that the cultural leadership of the city
  • and region is more reflective of its youthfulness and diversity, the Trust has created this new
  • role. This provides a paid development opportunity for an exceptional individual who is
  • committed to Coventry, Warwickshire, and the West Midlands and who has not yet been
  • able to realise their full potential.
The Trust will work with the successful candidate to create a professional development
  • framework (which may include leadership training, mentoring, and coaching, for example)
  • with the postholder reporting (in year one) to the current Chief Executive, Martin Sutherland.
  • From April 2023, Martin will have stepped down from his leadership role, and it is anticipated
  • that the Associate Chief Executive will succeed him in this high-profile role in the city.
The first year of the contract therefore provides an excellent and unusual opportunity - to

work closely with an experienced Chief Executive while not yet being fully responsible. It is

expected that the postholder will use this period to build strategic partnerships, play a pivotal

role in nurturing and supporting all colleagues, and spend time developing their own skills,

confidence, and alliances, which will enable them to take on the most senior role from April

2023 onwards.

In due course, the postholder will oversee the managerial and administration functions as
  • well as the most senior creative, operational and audience focussed roles in the
  • organisation. The postholder will take ultimate responsibility for all compliance, legal, health
and safety and safeguarding matters., Working with the Chief Executive, initially, to
  • Provide inspirational leadership for the Trust, ensuring Coventry’s profile, reputation
and nationally
  • Promote and maintain an organisational culture which values the highest standards in
national initiatives
  • Provide support for the creative team members, ensuring that commissioning
the press and other media
  • Assume overall responsibility for the Trust’s financial planning, performance, and
reporting
  • Ensure good governance across the Trust and maintain compliance with all relevant
legislation
  • Act as Company Secretary to the Board, sub-committees, and the board of any trading
subsidiary
  • Oversee the negotiation of all legal documentation across the Trust including funding,
production, and commercial contracts
  • Ensure that all legal and statutory requirements are met including the preparation of
activities
  • Develop and nurture the commercial capability of the Company, including securing the
long-term operating model for The Reel Store
  • Oversee the management of the Trust’s human resources, administration and ICT
aspects of the organisation
  • Lead, develop and monitor the Trust’s systems of risk management and embed
effective risk management within the organisation
  • Oversee the monitoring and evaluation activity for the Trust ensuring that the needs of
funders and external partners are met
  • Ensure appropriate internal and external dissemination of evaluation findings to key
partners and the rest of the UK
  • To be aware of, and undertake to comply with the Trust’s policies and procedures
We are also seeking to hear from those with
  • Experienced manager operating within the creative, cultural or charity sector
  • Demonstrable interest in the Green Futures and Climate agenda
  • Proven experience of leadership, communications, and stakeholder management
  • Good financial management skills
  • Proven track record of supporting fundraising, development, and commercial
campaigns
  • Experienced in governance and HR and research and evaluation
  • Ability to lead teams and campaigns that effect change
  • Excellent administration skills and strong attention to detail
  • Excellent organisation skills, with the ability to balance and prioritise a diverse
workload, working well autonomously and as part of a team
  • Competent across IT and software, including a strong working knowledge of
quickly
  • An effective communicator, able to build and maintain relationships with colleagues,
agencies, and partners
  • A can-do attitude to working in busy team structure, with experience of working with
multiple teams with competing demands
  • Evidenced commitment to personal and professional development
  • Attributes of diplomacy, confidentiality, trust and respect for colleagues and partners
  • To be based in, or able to move within commuting distance of Coventry
  • A personal and professional interest in arts, culture, and heritage in Coventry,
CONTEXT

We have had an extraordinary 12 months in Coventry, celebrating as the UK City of Culture
  • The team and our partners have been working to keep our promises to the city and region -
  • to deliver an amazing year that makes a lasting impact.
As we move into the final weeks of our year, we have announced our plans to build on our
  • successes and are now looking to recruit a Team to write the next chapter of the story for the
  • city that moves.
Our legacy activity will focus on a key theme explored during our year as UK City of Culture,

Green Futures .

In this next phase, we will continue to support the creation of ambitious, engaging, interactive
  • and playful arts programmes, co-created by cultural, educational and community
  • organisations across the city. The Trust will also coordinate a grants programme that support
  • these individuals and organisations to build capacity and to create extraordinary activities that
  • enhance the city’s Green Futures credentials.
During this period, we will also launch and operate The Reel Store, the UK’s first permanent

immersive digital art gallery.

In order to deliver our mission, 32 legacy roles have been created. This is your opportunity to

join Trust colleagues and partners as we continue to use arts and culture to create a greener

and more environmentally sustainable future for us all., Salary: Up to 70K per annum, dependent on experience

This is a fixed term post until the end of March 2023. Following a formal performance review

with Trustees, it is anticipated that the postholder’s contract will be extended to March 2025,

on revised financial terms (up to £85k per annum, dependent on experience), as they

assume the title and role of Chief Executive., * The post is working 39 hours (excluding 30 minute/1-hour lunch) per week Monday -

Friday at hours to be agreed between 9am and 6pm with evening and weekend work
  • Flexible working may be agreed, including the option for a blended approach to office
and homeworking and to work a four-day week
  • The salary is paid monthly in arrears
  • If required to work additional hours, Time Off in Lieu will be given if approved in
advance with the Line Manager / Chair of Trustee Board
  • Pension auto-enrolment is applicable and employer contributions are currently 3%
time to suit all colleagues
  • Main place of work is the Trust’s Office with attendance at meetings offsite, combined
with option for some homeworking
  • There is a probation period of three months during which time the notice period is
  • ne week; on confirmation of appointment the notice period is three months
