The city offers living costs 20% lower than London and 14 schools rated outstanding by Ofsted.Detailed job description and main responsibilities Your Responsibilities What you’ll doThe successful candidate will support the Sleep Physiology Team and Consultants in delivering an efficient service to our patients, within inpatient and outpatient settings. You will participate in the care of patients attending the service for diagnostic sleep testing and will offer continuous support, advice and follow up of patients on long term CPAP therapy. You will also help managing our patient support line, assist with effective stock management, maintenance of equipment and consumables used within the adult sleep service. You will work collaboratively and co-operatively with other colleagues on a day-to-day basis, to meet patient and service needs.What we’re looking forThe successful applicant will be organised, reliable, proactive and have the ability to work flexibly to meet the needs of a changing service. A keen eye for detail and accuracy is also required.   • 3 GCSEs (or equivalent) grade A-C, or grade 4-9 including English and Maths
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ3 in a relevant subject or evidence of currently working toward it
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
ExperienceEssential criteria
  • Experience of working with the general public
  • Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary/multi-skilled team
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in the NHS
  • Experience of working in a sleep/respiratory department
  • General knowledge of obstructive sleep apnoea and/or CPAP therapy
Essential CriteriaAptitudes and skills required
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills and ability to communicate with a wide range of healthcare staff and patients
  • Excellent planning, prioritising and organisational skills especially when routine is disrupted
  • Ability to multi-task and work within time constraints, whilst remaining focused
  • Use of computers and being proficient at moderate level in Microsoft products (Outlook, Word, Excel and Powerpoint…)
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
  • Effective role model
  • Fine dexterity required and attention to detail
  • Drive and enthusiasm for the speciality
Essential CriteriaSpecial requirements of the post
  • The post requires a combination of frequent light physical effort (carrying 2-10kg equipment); occasional physical effort (moving morbidly obese patients in wheelchairs); and frequent standing, kneeling or sitting in a restricted position
  • Confident in speaking to groups of patients
  • Ability to calmly handle situations dealing with upset or distressed patients
  • Awareness of professional responsibilities to self and others
  • Flexibility, reliability and adaptability to meet needs of a changing service
  • Ability to work late and night shits
  • Ability to work across sites
