Compton Care provides free care and support for people living with incurable illnesses and their families.


We support families to navigate every aspect of life with an incurable condition, including:


  • the physical
    – helping patients deal with the physical changes brought about by their illness helping with symptom control and pain management.
  • the practical – supporting families to manage practical aspects including as finances, housing, legal matters and making future care plans.
  • the emotional & spiritual – providing a safe space for families to express their thoughts, feelings and emotions throughout the duration of a person’s illness and after death.


Care is tailored to each person and focuses on providing families with the tools, encouragement and support they need to live a good quality life.


It costs over £12 million every year to provide services free of charge to families across Wolverhampton, the Black Country, South Staffordshire and East Shropshire.


Compton receives approximately one third of this funding from the government with the rest sourced through various income generation activities including charity shops, fundraising events, a Compton lottery and various other appeals and campaigns.


We are currently looking for an experienced Assistant Shop Manager, on a fixed term 12 month basis to work 12 hours per week, 4 hours per day on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The successful candidate will demonstrate high standards within customer service and aspire to be an ambassador for Compton Care in the local retail community.


Main duties


  • To support the Shop Manager on a daily basis.
  • In the absence of the Shop Manager, be responsible for the overall supervision and operation of Compton’s Charity Shops in line with company rules and guidelines.
  • Alongside the Shop Manager, be ambassadors for Compton Care, promoting our services and the importance of how our charity shops generate additional income for the organisation.


Essential qualifications and experience:


  • Experience of working within retail of a charitable organisation
  • A proven ability to work within a team and have effective working
  • Previous experience of working in a front-line retail environment
  • Demonstrates on understanding of effective team leadership
  • Experience of shop merchandising
  • Ability to work on own initiative
