12 Month Fixed Term Appointment

Part-Time Hours could be considered. Flexibility to work from home following initial training period.

Role Purpose
  • As a member of the project/Cost Centre Accounting team, undertake a range of financial and accounting duties following processes and procedures with limited guidance and supervision
  • You will be required to produce, review and analyse transactional finance data to ensure that financial results are compliant with company financial policy and accounting standards
  • This role will offer development opportunities for those seeking to progress their accounting career
Key Accountabilities
  • Supports the delivery of high quality finance and accounting activities to the business with limited supervision and guidance, whilst working within clearly defined procedures.
  • Resolves standard queries, escalating more complex issues to a senior member of the team
  • Supports resilience across the Business Support team by learning new skills, tools and providing administrative support where and when required as determined by the Team Leader and/or Accounting Lead
  • Supports the effectiveness of the business support team by identifying and communicating improvement opportunities within own role and tasks and assists with CI projects and activities
Specific Responsibilities Include, But Not Limited To
  • Preparation and posting of journals, including accruals, prepayments, provisions and any others that help to provide timely and accurate month end accounts
  • Attending Project/Cost Centre reviews, providing relevant feedback and challenging the numbers (assistance and development in this area)
  • Capital expenditure monitoring and reporting
  • Preparation of Balance Sheet Packs
  • Preparation of monthly QinetiQ Management Packs
  • Work as a team with the management accountants to support Cost Centre Managers, project and program managers
  • Cost correction posting
  • Preparation of AP06 & AP12 Statutory audit packs
  • Ad hoc reporting for key stakeholders
  • Maintain compliance with standard processes and procedures
  • Assisting Management Accountants with forecasting and budget rounds, gaining experience and taking a lead when ready
  • Preparation of hedging data for the Treasury team
Key Capabilities/Knowledge
  • Knowledge of Management Information Services and its key outputs
  • Accuracy and attention to detail and excellent numerical analytical skills
  • Effective time management and a can-do attitude
  • Team player willing to seek help from colleagues and share experiences and best practices
  • Flexibility in approach and attitude – open to change
  • Customer service and delivery of quality outputs
  • Good communication skills and eager to learn
Experience & Qualifications
  • Actively studying – ACA, ACCA, CIMA, AAT or relevant accounting experience
  • Knowledge of SAP and Microsoft Office, in particular Excel is an advantage
  • Project/Cost Centre accounting experience is essential
  • Key experience working in a large team and ability to meet tight month end deadlines
