Maritime Ranges Technical Lead Engineer

Location: Farnborough, Portsmouth or BUTEC

As part of the LTPA programme, QinetiQ are looking for an experienced engineer to join the Maritime Test, Evaluation, Training and Tactics team and lead the technical activities to refresh a number of equipment at the Range facilities at BUTEC in Scotland, as well as providing advice that will directly impact defence operations. This is a hands-on role, in a vibrant team with growing demands both in the UK and internationally.

Role

The role would suit engineers with an interest in systems engineering, underwater acoustics and engineering management, with experience in one or more of the following areas

• Networking and infrastructure
• Acoustic signal processing
• Underwater hardware
• Testing and ranging
• Equipment delivery
• Equipment calibration and test

Job Specification

What Will I Be Doing?

Definition and delivery of technical projects through-life, working effectively with broader stakeholders and project management, guiding a technical team to success.

Supporting the career and personal development of the engineering team

Provide direction and recommendations relating to technical risks and opportunities, owning actions, solutions and future work streams.

Coordinate multi-stakeholder analysis into reports and presentations for delivery to customers and industry partners.

Understand and apply relevant regulatory, safety and technical standards, integrating required compliance and governance activity into delivery work.

Lead the procurement from a technical perspective of equipment and technologies that will support the UK’s ranging capability under the LTPA programme (www.ltpa.co.uk)

What do I need?

We are seeking skills in one or more of the following areas:

• Systems Engineering
• System Architecture
• IT infrastructure
• Requirements Definition
• Software/Hardware procurement and integration
• Testing and Integration, particularly in military environments
• Agile methodologies

Education

• Degree in maths, physics, computer science, electronics or relevant engineering discipline OR demonstration of relevant engineering experience

Experience

Your experience may be at a detailed technical level, or be at enterprise level, where you would have broader knowledge of the overall system performance and operational context, MOD procurement procedures and processes and a well-developed approach to supporting customers and internal stakeholders with development of future systems and services.

Defence environment experience would be highly preferable, with a track record of delivering models, system analysis, bespoke equipment, assurance or advice and technical delivery of complex systems. Experience in product design certification or assurance activities and an understanding of general engineering lifecycle and business process would be a distinct advantage.
