Assistant Accountant - Job purpose

To provide an effective Accounting service to the business, maintaining the General Ledger, ensuring the completeness and accuracy of the company’s financial records, providing timely information to the business.

Assistant Accountant - Principle Accountabilities
  • Produce timely and accurate management information in accordance with internal deadlines and in compliance with the Group accounting policies (FRS102).
  • Prepare necessary journals to account for costs (including accruals and prepayments), ensuring all entries are accurately processed through the GL so that Management Accounts are produced and issued in accordance with internal guidelines in appropriate formats.
  • Provide insightful analysis of costs to Finance, ensuring the accuracy and legitimacy of the accounts
  • Taking ownership of the Balance Sheets across all entities and being the Go to contact. Ensuring they are fully reconciled on a monthly basis and ensuring any remedial action. Working with the team to correct any misposts and keeping the Balance Sheets compliant;
  • Supporting the team and the Finance Manager/Financial Controller with providing accurate and insightful P&L variance analysis;
  • Act as a point of contact for finance queries for the Balance Sheets, investigating and providing a timely response to Balance Sheet queries;
  • Identify and implement process improvements to drive greater efficiency, improve accuracy in the production of the management accounts, to meet the growing needs of the business, as agreed with management.
  • Working with the Finance Manager to ensure the Balance Sheet is Audit compliant, working with the team to resolve any anomalies in the correct period and ensuring the schedules are clean, robust and ready for the Annual Audit;
  • Assist in compiling Tax schedules to assist with preparation of Corporation Tax filing and supporting with any Tax queries
  • Reconcile Intercompany monthly and working with the team to post journals within the deadlines set. Ensuring that any deferred items to the Balance Sheets are correctly posted in the following month;
  • Completion of returns to the Office for National Statistics
Assistant Accountant - Salary
  • £30,000 to £35,000

Required Qualifications
  • ACCA or CIMA early stages or part qualified
  • Ideally AAT Qualified
