About you…

The successful Art Therapist will have a strong understanding of visual art as well as demonstrate excellent communication, analytical and counselling skills. You will be patient, empathetic, creative and have a passion for art. The Art Therapist will be responsible for conducting art therapy sessions with students using various types of visual art, including drawing, sculpting, painting, ceramics, and clay modelling.

Art Therapist Experience and Qualifications

  • A post graduate diploma in Art Therapy or Psychotherapy that is recognised by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Registration with Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Training certificate in Elklan or ASC (preferred but not essential).
  • Previous experience of working as an Art Therapist within a similar setting.
  • Experience supporting children and/or young people with complex communication needs, including people who are non-verbal.

Art Therapist Role Outline

The successful Art Therapist will be an integral part of the school team and will work in partnership with the multidisciplinary Health Team. You will be responsible for providing in-depth assessment and intervention plans for young people with a variety of complex needs, including physical and learning difficulties, multi-sensory impairment, communication difficulties, autism, and challenging behaviour. The Art Therapist will also work closely with individuals, families, education staff, carers, communities, and outside agencies to undertake a comprehensive assessment of children and young people’s needs.
