Job Summary

We are seeking to appoint a Psychologist to join Easington Mental Health Services for Older People Community Team based at The Old Vicarage in Seaham .

Candidates should have excellent interdisciplinary working skills and be interested in developing and delivering innovative interventions. You will be expected to have the necessary skills and experience to undertake direct clinical work, consult on complex cases, offer supervision and training, participate in service evaluation, as well as contribute to service development and change.

This vacancy is open to those who are due to qualify, newly qualified Psychologist or an experienced Psychologist with appropriate Job Description and banding being applied accordingly to the successful candidate. Successful candidates who are newly qualified Psychologists will be expected to work towards the competencies of the higher band within an agreed time frame; being regraded to the 8a role upon successful completion.

Main duties of the job

The post requires a high degree of professional autonomy and critical judgement providing leadership to the MDT and guiding decision making in relation to risk and treatment planning. A core function of the role is to support the MDT in their delivery of compassionate, trauma-informed care; as well as working within the Dementia Care Pathway.

Applicants need to be motivated, enthusiastic, flexible and resilient. Knowledge and experience of working with people who have complex mental health needs is essential. Team work is an important element of the job and you will need to demonstrate working effectively in a team and offering supervision to other professionals. The successful applicant will also support with the supervision of staff and Trainee Psychologists working in the service.

Qualifications

Person Specification Qualifications Essential

  • Post-graduate training (doctoral level equivalent) in clinical / counselling / forensic psychology (or its equivalent prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS
  • HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Trained in clinical supervision (within agreed timescale)
  • Trained in care co-ordination (within agreed timescale)

Desirable

  • Post-graduate qualification showing evidence of supervised practice in an evidence-based psychological therapeutic model
  • Registration with BPS

Experience Essential

  • Must have experience/interest in: Working with mental health clients (depending on designated service area)

Knowledge / Skills Essential

  • Risk assessment and risk management
  • Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health.
  • Communicate highly complex and highly sensitive information effectively, to a wide range of people

Desirable

  • Experience of joint working with statutory, voluntary and private sector agencies
