What You’ll Do

The Applications Engineer role is to configure DC products from an extensive range of standard modules, assemblies and parts and to support the business through the manufacture of those products. The Application Engineer will be required to gain a deep technical understanding of DC power systems and be able to provide excellent customer technical support and guidance on Eaton DC products. The role will also require assisting Sales to quote for new opportunities and provide customers internally and externally with engineering support in areas of design, regulatory compliance, and cost.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure you are familiar with the company’s range of DC products.
  • Ensure familiarity with the DC market and competitors technology.
  • To be prepared to travel within the UK or abroad outside working hours when required.
  • To ‘configure to order’ DC systems based on a standard range of products and components.
  • To ‘design and configure’ products and solutions to new customer requirements.
  • To assist sales with technical input to quotations.
  • To be an internal / external technical point of contact for DC products and solutions.
  • To learn local MRP system and be able to create new part numbers and compile Bill of Materials (BOMs).
  • Generate build packages for each job incorporating adequate information for the product to be manufactured.
  • Use AutoCAD and Visio where required to draw simple circuit diagrams and layouts of the products.
  • Support manufacturing and test activities.
  • Understand and create circuit diagrams, line schematics and cable wiring details.
  • Understand and experienced in working to BS7671, 17th Edition or above wiring regulations.
  • Knowledge of EN62368 safety standard and other relevant regulatory standards.
  • Generate associated customer documentation for products including installation manuals, operation guides, maintenance procedures, method statements and commissioning documents.
  • Create training packages and deliver training on Eaton DC products to Planners, Installers, Operations and Maintenance personnel.
  • Collaborate and cooperate with team members to accomplish shared goals.
  • Improve business and departmental processes.
  • Be quality focused.
  • Drive Engineering cost out initiatives through the business.
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • University Degree or ONC/HNC in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or equivalent.
  • BS7671 Wiring Regulations (minimum 17th edition, 18th edition preferable).
  • Electrical apprenticeship or minimum 3 years Electrical Engineering experience.
Skills

  • Experience working in an electrical/electronic design/manufacturing environment.
  • Flexibility of working hours.
  • Computer literate with excellent knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio and Outlook.
  • Articulate in both written and verbal communications.
  • Ability to work autonomously.
  • Drive and determination.
  • Work on own initiative.
  • Multi-tasking and able to work to challenging project milestones.
  • Ability to develop a creative approach to problem solving.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet work deadlines.
  • Be prepared to take accountability for one’s actions.
  • Experience using ERP/MRP systems.
  • Experience using AutoCAD to generate circuit diagrams – Not essential but an advantage.
  • Experience using Solidworks 3D modelling – Not essential but an advantage.
  • Comply with the companies’ code of ethics.
