Main duties of the job

The anticoagulant service covers Chorley and Preston hospitals and the surrounding areas. The role is varied and includes running clinics at both hospital sites and offsite community clinics. There is also an office based aspect to this role where patients are contacted via telephone/postal service in order for them to receive dosage advice.

We are looking for a well organised and enthusiastic individual with good clinical knowledge and excellent communication skills to join our busy anticoagulant service.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

You will work in a small team and perform a wide range of roles. You will have excellent interpersonal and administrative skills including IT proficiency. You will be able to work well in a team, work autonomously, be able to use your initiative and be willing to acquire new skills and knowledge. Attention to detail and accuracy in your work will be a key characteristic. You will be able to work in a busy environment which is at times stressful and have a strongly held commitment to high standards of service delivery. You will need to possess a positive approach within a constantly changing organisation.

Qualifications And Education

Essential criteria
  • Registered General Nurse/Registered Nurse Adult or equivalent
  • Non-Medical Prescribing Course (NU4023/NU3023) and NCAT anticoagulation therapy course or willing to work towards the same


Desirable criteria
  • 1st Degree in Nursing, Health or related subject course anticoagulation therapy
  • Teaching qualification
  • Venepuncture course


Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive post registration experience including at band 6
  • Experience in multi-disciplinary team working
  • Teaching experience


Desirable criteria
  • Previous management experience
  • Previous experience in a senior role in associated speciality
