Job Purpose:

Lead the engineering development of future platforms and concept vehicles.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

• Lead the day-to-day management of the Advanced Concept team.
• Lead the development of mechanical layout for new vehicle concepts and platforms.
• Work with the Design team to define Vehicle Package and Ergonomics targets for the programs
• Develop concept layouts for the full range of derivatives supported by new platform concepts, and the commonalities between them, in order to support definition of future products.
• Capture commonality assumptions in alignment with the program and core engineering teams to establish the PMXU, whilst enabling the most efficient use of tooling and engineering investment across multiple programs.
• Support the development of engineering concept matrix population with the engineering commodity owners and attribute areas to generate package layouts compatible with program targets.
• Provide escalation for package / layout issues that affect cost, quality or timing.
• Provide leadership / support to cross functional teams to resolve cross functional package issues.
• Support development of innovative technologies/commodities/processes in line with product planning, in preparation for future programmes.
• Proactively seek relevant benchmarking within and beyond the automotive industry to solve new problems.
• Critically assess benchmark vehicles across a broad range of attributes as well as their mechanical layout.
• Provide expertise and initial conceptual development of new product proposals/developments.
• Plan the creation and maintenance of concept digital bucks.
• Support planning, creation and update of physical bucks with target / hardpoint data.
• The post holder will undertake other duties as may be required to achieve the Company’s objectives, commensurate with the grading of the post.

Qualification & Experience:

• Extensive experience in platform, mechanical and occupant package.
• Proven leadership experience.
• Excellent knowledge of tolerance/variation, testing and development, FMEA, problem solving, DFM & tooling principles, appreciation for VFM.
• Board understanding of vehicle integration requirements across all disciplines, i.e. electrical, body, chassis and powertrain
• Excellent mechanical engineering background and a comprehensive knowledge of automotive package design and development.
• Working knowledge of AMPCS / MISSION or similar Product Creation Process.
