Advanced Clinical Pharmacist – Surgery, Nutrition and Enhanced Care

Full Time (1.0 WTE)

Due to service expansion and development of the Urgent and Integrated Care pathway, the Pharmacy Department has a new, exciting opening for an ambitious, highly motivated pharmacist to join the team. As a key member of the Surgery team you will work directly alongside dynamic Consultants, Specialist Nurses, the Nutrition Team, Pharmacy staff and with the wider healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities Include
  • Leading the team of Pharmacists and Medicines Management Technicians providing the Clinical Pharmacy service to Surgery
  • Supporting the Clinical Pharmacy service to Critical Care and the High Dependency Unit when required
  • Contributing directly to provision of the Clinical Pharmacy service to Surgery
  • Working as an independent prescriber
  • Leading medicines optimisation for Surgery including financial reporting, formulary management, horizon scanning and implementation of national guidance
  • Working alongside specialist teams including the Nutrition team and the pain management team
  • Working as part of the multi-disciplinary team to develop Enhanced Care Practice
  • Review of incident reports and DATIX to improve process and practice to ensure safer medicines use
  • Ensuring clinical supervision and training for Foundation and Specialist Pharmacists and the wider Pharmacy team
  • Contributing to the training and development of Medical, Nursing and Allied Healthcare Professionals
You will be a non-medical independent prescriber or working towards this qualification.

The ideal candidate will have experience in delivering Clinical Pharmacy services to a range of specialties including Urology, Gynaecology and General Surgery. You will be committed to a high standard of medicines management and demonstrate excellent communication and mentoring skills. The role requires strong prioritisation and time management skills to enable you to work efficiently and effectively as part of the wider healthcare team. You will have the highest level of commitment to patient safety and be dedicated to delivering outstanding medicines management.

The Clinical Pharmacy team comprises Clinical Pharmacists, Medicines Management Technicians and Trainees. You will be a highly valued member of the Surgery and Pharmacy teams, a role model and mentor for Foundation Pharmacists.

The Jurassic Coastline, an area of outstanding natural beauty, and the National Sailing Academy are only eight miles away.

The post includes a weekly late duty and participation in the weekend and bank holiday rota.

The Trust and Trust Executive have undertaken a whole systems overview to ensure the safety of patients and staff during the current COVID-19 Pandemic. As part of this each department, including pharmacy, has undertaken a risk assessment to ensure a COVID secure work environment.
