Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a rapidly expanding team involved with 2 new initiatives in Hywel Dda University Health Board. The Rapid Diagnosis Clinic (RDC) is an existing service providing a diagnostic pathway for people with vague symptoms that may indicate a potential cancer diagnosis. The Malignancy of Undetermined Origin (MUO) service is a new service planned for Autumn 2022 that provides a diagnostic pathway for people who have an identified metastatic cancer where there is no primary identified.

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic clinical nurse specialist to help further develop both clinics and manage a caseload of patients within these services.

Main duties of the job

Working under the leadership of the Senior Clinical Nurse Specialist for the RDC/MUO Services the Band 7 CNS will provide Key Worker support for patients accessing these pathways. This includes receiving and triaging referrals from Primary and Secondary Care, initial contact with patients, support at clinics and appropriate follow up, onward referral and signposting.

The post holder will develop close working relationships with other cancer pathway teams and the Acute Oncology Team.

The role will support the existing rapid diagnosis service with all aspects of patient care including triage of patients, supporting them on the diagnostic pathway and all aspects of continued service development.

There are plans for role out of further clinics as demand increases.

The role will also be involved with helping to co-ordinate care and set up clinics for patients with a malignancy of unknown origin. The ambition is to ensure high quality, seamless care and interventions for this complex group of patients.

The ability to work across sites is essential.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
