DJ Evans’ primary activity is that of a builders & engineers merchants. They have 2 shops (Ipswich & Bury), but the majority of their sales are directly to the trade. Their turnover last year was £6.3m, but they are growing rapidly & are very well funded. There is an opportunity for an Accounts Apprentice to join the team.

The apprentice will work in a pleasant office in a leafy part of Bury St Edmunds. The apprentice will be working closely with 5 other employees in the department. The department also provides accounting services to another company within the Group (Fengate Fasteners Ltd). Duties can be split into 2 types:

Day to Day-
  • Posting & matching invoices on the ERP system.
  • Matching invoices with delivery notes.
  • Resolving queries with suppliers.
  • Resolving queries with our own Warehouse & Purchasing Departments.
  • Posting petty cash vouchers to the system.
  • Ensuring the pretty cash float balances.
  • Some filing.
  • Other ad-hoc duties as the role develops.
Monthly Cycle-
  • Assist in reconciliation of supplier statements.
  • Chase up missing vouchers to support credit card statements.
  • Assist in compiling the late invoice accrual for the Financial Controller.
Day to Day Contact
As well as working with the other members of staff within the Finance Team, the individual will find themselves working closely with the Warehouse & Purchasing Departments to resolve quantity & pricing queries. Additionally, they will be communicating with suppliers and, through their professionalism, will help to maintain our excellent relationship with them.

  • Level 2 Accounts or Finance Assistant Apprenticeship
  • AAT Level 2 Qualification
GCSE grades 6-9 in English Language & Maths, or equivalent.

Desirable:
  • Some knowledge of Excel
Ideally we would want someone to train and grow with us. D J Evans is a business that is in the process of growing. We are very
well funded & can offer someone a long term future. We would support them throughout their studies with the aim of them becoming ACCA or CIMA qualified. There would then be the opportunity of becoming the Financial Controller of Director of Finance.

The role will require an individual to spend long periods of time working on a computer & requires good attention to detail.
There would be a requirement to work 8 hours per day, but we allow individuals to choose their start & leaving times. Once they had been agreed, that would then become the pattern. This could then be renegotiated at a later date if an individual’s circumstances changed.
