Elementa are recruiting for an experienced Learning Support Assistant to work on a 1:1 basis with a child who will be in Year 6 from September 2021 for an anticipated 1 year contract.

The child displays particularly challenging behaviour and is currently under further assessment for ADHD. Despite these personal challenges, the child is noted for having a sense of humour and being quite fun to work with. The child has excellent provision from the school in terms of resources; they work in their own room, has their own garden area an has a team of dedicated LSA staff. Additionally there is very positive, active engagement & liaison with the childs’ parents.

The support required is to work on a 1:1 basis all day whilst the child is at school. Currently this is for the morning session up until the end of lunch break although from September it’s anticipated for the child to spend the whole day in school. The hours required to work however remain flexible (PT/FT.) The successful applicant will be required to support the specific work prepared for the child; this is short & snappy literacy & numeracy sessions in the morning with the rest of the day being activity led learning focused around the childs’ interests.

For this role the successful person will need to be very patient, unflappable, understand & identify triggers, be astute in positive behaviour management strategies, be empathetic towards the Childs needs and be committed to support the child on an ongoing basis throughout the academic year. A key focus in appointing someone for this role will be to focus on their own resilience & commitment. The main concern for the child is to have the same person who is able & willing to commit for the whole of the academic year as leaving part way through would likely lead to further distress to the childs’ already sensitive emotions.

Experience & trining for using positive behaviour management strategies such as Team Teach or MAPA for example, may be an advantage in being considered for this role. However, free Team Teach training would be available for the successful applicant.

This role will be based at a large primary school based in Weston Super Mare. The school have an excellent reputation for providing outstanding provision for pupils that have SEND & ALN. They have a hard working, stable and dedicated staff team who welcome & support new colleagues. Their whole focus & outlook is to always do their best for the children at their school. This is a school that people love working at.

Whilst the preference is to recruit an experienced Learning Support Assistant, this role may also be suited to an applicant without experience in an education setting that has significant experience of having worked with children that display challenging behaviour.

As Elementa is the recruiting partner all applicants still being considered for the role after pre-screening will be required to complete the registration process for both Elementa. This includes full vetting & background checks and application for an Enhanced DBS Disclosure unless you have a current DBS on the update service. A clear DBS certificate is highly desirable however a positive DBS certificate is not an absolute barrier to being considered. All applicants will be promptly responded to.
