We expect employees to give their personal best and strive for continuous improvement to ensure the highest standards of care and service are delivered to all Service Users. The Head House Keeper will manage the laundry and domestic areas working closely with their team to provide fair allocation of duties and shifts, inspiration and management to ensure the high standard of service & the clean and hygienic maintenance of the home to contribute to the quality of care and lifestyle afforded to each care user. This is particularly applicable to each care user’s privacy and dignity and in respect of each care user’s personal possessions.

Duties and responsibilities

• To be directly responsible to the Facilities Manager & Home Manager.
• To ensure Domestic Staff are cleaning all allocated rooms including furniture, fittings, fabric, carpets and equipment.
• To be aware of the health and safety statement and of the COSHH statement.
• To oversee the rotas and make sure there is the appropriate number of staff on duty at all times.
• To report any malfunction of equipment or fittings that require maintenance or cannot be kept to standard through normal cleaning procedures.
• To ensure Domestic Staff are dealing with the waste bags and their prescribed disposal appropriately.
• To perform other such reasonable duties as may be required.
• Overall responsibility for the support within the home for the Laundry & Domestic areas.
• To work closely alongside the Home Manager & Facilities Manager in making any changes needed in keeping the homes highs standard of cleanliness and complying with ever changing infection control procedures.
• Place any orders needed for chemicals paying attention to stock levels and COSHH requirements.

Health, Safety & Hygiene
The post-holder has personal responsibility for health, safety and hygiene as outlined in:

• The Trust’s Health and Safety policy
• Health & Safety at Work Act 1974
• Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (as amended)
• Food Safety (General Hygiene Regulation) 1995
• Food Safety (Temperature Control Regulation) 1995
• All Department policies.

General
- We operate a no-smoking policy and the post holder should either be a non- smoker or be prepared not to smoke in the premises.

• All employees are required to be aware of their responsibilities towards health and safety and to adhere to the fire regulations.

• Economic and careful use of manually and mechanically operated equipment (including knives, Dishwater and conveyor belts) at all times observing the guidelines specified in the Health and Safety act 1993.
• Economic and careful use of all cleaning materials (including sanitizers and detergents) at all times observing guidelines specified in the Health and Safety act 1993.
• Report all mechanical and/or fixture and fitting defects to the Care Home Manager.
• Maintain a neat and tidy appearance at all times, observing standards of personal hygiene as specified in the Foods Safety (General Hygiene Regulation) 1995.
• Ensuring mops are washed in washing machine at the end of each evening
• To receive training and attend training courses as required.
• Such other duties as may be required from time to time which are consistent with the post.
