Financial Controller

Introduction to FuturePlaces

FuturePlaces has been recently created as a new company by the newly formed local authority of Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole (BCP) to facilitate transformational placemaking and sustainable growth and development within the region. This is central to the delivery of the council’s Big Plan for the area to develop as a truly world class, coastal city region.

We are now looking for an experienced Financial Controller to join us to help facilitate the growth and operation of the business.

You will be joining FuturePlaces at the beginning of our journey and there’s a great opportunity here to be part of something very important which will make a positive difference to our local area.

About the Role

Reporting into board level, you will take complete ownership of the day-to-day financial running of the business and as such we are looking for an experienced senior finance professional who is pro-active and driven to deliver excellent results.

This is a full and varied role and offers an excellent opportunity to grow with the company as things at FuturePlaces develop. At the moment we’re a small team so there is a lot of scope to be involved in all areas of the operations side of the business and play a pivotal role in developing ways of working.

Key tasks include preparation of regulatory reporting, preparing monthly financial statements, supporting month-end and year-end close processes and financial risk management elements.

Flexible working will be required, which will require you to work both from the offices in the BCP region and from home.

About You

There is a lot to do here at FuturePlaces and we are looking for someone with a calm, yet laser-focused and detailed approach to help us deliver the exciting plans we have. You’ll also relish the idea of working in a start-up environment with a lot of close-up exposure to all areas of the business.

Your proven technical expertise in financial control will be essential to help drive your success in this role. It will really help if you have a background in development, property and/or local authorities or a similar where your knowledge and experience can really add value although this is not essential.

You will have been operating as a Financial Controller with will have a strong desire to work for a business right from its inception and be a part of helping to shape the future.

In terms of qualifications, you will be a qualified or part-qualified accountant with a strong desire to complete your studies.
