The Assistant Accountant will play a crucial role in supporting the finance department and ensuring the accurate and efficient management of financial transactions. This position will report directly to the Financial Controller and collaborate with other team members to maintain financial records, process invoices, reconcile accounts, and perform various financial tasks.

Essential Duties and Tasks

  • Prepare several month end routines for review by the financial Controller, including:

Co-ordinate monthly stock take

Monthly stock valuation

Maintain Fixed Asset register

Maintain Accruals/Prepayments

Month end journals

Maintain customer/supplier rebates

Balance Sheet reconciliations

  • Support the other members of the team in their responsibilities and provide cover during absence.
  • Prepare quarterly submissions for VAT and PPT.
  • Submit monthly/annual Office of National Statistic returns.
  • Until covered by UK Credit Collections Specialist: set up new customers and review credit limits.
  • Carry out various projects, as agreed with the Financial Controller, to improve the accuracy and efficient of activities in the Finance team and across the business.

Qualifications & Experience

  • AAT qualification, or equivalent, or working towards one
  • Previous experience in a similar role, preferably in the packaging industry
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
  • Knowledge of accounting software, such as Sage or Xero
  • Excellent numeracy and accuracy skills
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Attention to detail and problem solving skills
