The Purpose Of This Post, As Part Of Newport Mind’s Comic Relief Funded Bridging The Gap Project In Newport, In Partnership With Literature Wales And Community Youth Project, Is To

Provide support to young people in Newport from ethnic minorities and LGBTQ+ communities who are experiencing challenges to their mental health and wellbeing.

Deliver restorative and resilience-based interventions to young people in the community who have experienced trauma, for up to 6 weeks.

To facilitate youth work activities and provide support to young people to access Community Youth Project and wider Community House activities.

To connect with young people through centre-based, outreach and detached youth work and through referrals from Newport Mind and other partners.

To support young people in increasing their wellbeing, confidence and self-belief, encouraging them to become more active in their communities.

The project offers support for families and young people in Newport, using restorative and resilience approaches to address trauma and reduce the impact of poor mental health. We’ll target our work towards those experiencing multiple disadvantages, ethnic minorities, the LGBTQ+ community and young people experiencing trauma.

This project creates a pathway for young people to access mental health support, and a place for families to explore the impact of daily life when a family member is experiencing mental health challenges.
