Workshop Engineer (SHIFTS)

Note: CV will not be considered unless accompanied by a covering letter.

About us

Stoane Lighting Ltd is an Employee-Owned design-led manufacturer of architectural light fittings. Our products are used in a variety of building environments: high profile, big scale new builds like museums, trendy bars and restaurant or historic buildings like cathedrals, castles and other heritage projects as well as residential and retail applications.

All our fittings are made to order and assembled at our Loanhead facility. On top of our standard range of products we manufacture variations of them as well as bespoke products. We have a solid base of local subcontractors who make components to our design, we also have a capable workshop that is used for bespoke one offs and small to medium sized component runs.

Job Description

We are currently looking for someone to join our workshop team at engineer and trainee level. Core duties will include the operation of our CNC lathes and milling machines, verifying dimensions, finish quality and deburring our range components and light fittings. There is scope for development within the workshop for someone with suitable ability and skill levels. Our ideal candidates would be a fast learner with hands-on experience making things, a creative problem solver and would be able to adapt quickly to new ways of working with a varied workload. Basic manufacturing skills and tool knowledge are important, various levels of experience working with manual lathes and mills would be an advantage. CNC setting and programming experience would also be an advantage although a keenness to learn is more important. We have vast portfolio of standard component drawings with varied complexity with more produced and updated every day. Technical drawing knowledge is essential to follow drawings and provide feedback.

Every project at MSL is different and as a lot of our work is bespoke or special, there is plenty of variety. When we produce larger batches of standard fittings, you will have a chance to learn each component type inside out, but rarely on a scale that would warrant weeks of the same work.

Thanks to that varied environment each position in the company is unique allowing for progression in different directions throughout the organization. The products and company are constantly evolving, and we very much believe in encouraging staff to think for themselves and to contribute by means of ideas as well as hard work to the efficiency of the company.

Work Environment

You will be based in our workshop in Loanhead, typical workshop environment, manual lathes, mills, table saws and numerus other machines. The machines and workshop area are central to SL and as such, are looked after, maintained, and cleaned by all that use them. We encourage the use of the workshop for CPD’s and learning. There is plenty of equipment available for people who like making things.

Other Elements

Loanhead is SL base of operation for our Design Office, Project Management, Luminaire Assembly, and our Workshop. We also have a separate Paintshop in Haddington that is capable of powder coating and various wet paint finishes.
