About The Role
MilestoneInfrastructure are currently looking to recruit a Workshop Chargehand to work on our Highways contract in Bridgwater (Dunball).

As the Workshop Chargehand you will be part of our Somerset Workshops Business Unitwho are responsible formaintainingvehicles & plant and undertaking repairs for 3 main clients, being our Somerset County Council contract, our internal fleet & assets and finally our 3rd party client base.

Milestone Infrastructure Ltd has a reputation built on designing, improving, and maintaining the UK’s critical infrastructure with our aim being the first choice for agencies and authorities responsible for highways infrastructure.

We currently have ten highways maintenance contracts, another six contracts for street lighting maintenance, and a variety of large, complex, civil engineering projects across southern and central England. The workshop business sits with the Somerset Highways Contract and are the only two contracts to have their own workshops. There are 7 workshops within Somerset based around the whole county.

The role is largely workshop based with some travel to other workshops within Somerset or sites as appropriate. Dunball staff are expected to provide staffing for the Glastonbury Workshop as & when the work schedule requires.

There is a requirement to provide an out of hours service for breakdowns & repairs during the months of October & April for our winter fleet of gritters, covering the Bridgwater, Taunton & Minehead area. This requirement is one week in every six during that period.

As the Workshop Chargehandyour duties & responsibilities will be:

  • To ensure that all paperwork (manual & electric) is completed accurately and within agreed timescales, returning all admin/compliance docs to Business Support.
  • To supervise the daily workshop operations and ensure the efficient and cost effective maintenance and repair of vehicles, plant & machines to the required standards
  • Health & Safety of all workshop staff & visitors
  • Welfare & discipline of supervised workshop staff
  • Ensure all work is carried out in a cost-efficient manner
  • Responsible for the morale, welfare & discipline of workshop staff under your control. At all times, you and your staff, are to provide a professional customer focused service to all clients.
  • Customer vehicles on our premises
  • Workshop environmental issues
  • OTHER – you will be expected to carry out other tasks within your capabilities as detailed by the Workshops Manager
  • Completing any actions resulting from BIM 360 audits in a timely manner
Skills & Knowledge Requirements
  • Recognised motor vehicle engineering qualification
  • Class C licence or above
  • Understanding of the Operator’s Licence regulations
  • PSV Licence
  • IT literate – MS Office package
  • R2C skills (an advantage but not necessary)
