The Workshop Assistant – Production helps people with sight loss to live the life they choose by assisting in all aspects of Workshop production, training in new procedures and practices where necessary. The role adheres to site H&S standards at all times and delivers high quality standards of manufacturing.


This role will be based on site at our Guide Dogs National Centre office, working closely with a team of workshop assistants. You’ll be working 35 hours per week, worked 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Candidate profile

To be able to fulfil this role, the skills and experience we are looking for in a potential candidate include;


Essential

  • GCSE grade C or above in English and Maths (QCF level 2 / SQCF level 5).
  • The job role requires basic mathematical and grammatical correctness.
  • There is a need to take accurate measurements and apply them when manufacturing equipment.
  • Good communication is required when discussing equipment with technical staff and others.
  • Proven experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Up to date knowledge of the importance of Health & Safety at work.
  • Production engineering background.
  • Aptitude for practical techniques and able to understand H&S manuals.
  • Self-motivated and able to work without direct supervision.
  • Good attention to detail, thorough and flexible.
  • Positive team player.
  • Time management to ensure tasks are completed on time.
  • Ability to problem solve and make decisions based on own initiative.
  • Able to undertake the demands of the role.


Desirable


  • Manual handling training, NVQ level 2 Mechanical Engineering.
