Workpack Engineer

Location: Warrington

The Role

Those persons who directly planning and prepare work-pack activities. Workpack planners/Engineer will have direct responsibility for all work-pack planning and preparation and will typically brief the Fabrication Manager, Scheduler and Supervisors on the content of the work-pack/book, they will not have any contact with Superintendent’s, Supervision, Client’s Sub-contractors or Client’s suppliers.

Duties included within this role, but not limited to the following (Additional tasks may be given to WBP at the discretion of the FM, if deemed appropriate).

  • Workbook planner plays a key role in promoting health, safety, environmental and quality assurance of any contract.
  • They develop and implement the Safe Systems of Work that we use.
  • Carryout all workbook preparation in-line with the clients procedures and the project deliverables.
  • Competent in Microsoft Excel, Word, SAP training for BUK portal.
  • Complete all work-pack preparation within planning timescale window to maintain the contract KPI’s & OTIF’s.
  • Prepare TQ’s, “Early Warnings” and advise FM of any significant delays during the planning phase.
  • Hold/Chair weekly planning meetings and review progress planning, identify delays/blockers, Raise and manage the planning action log.
  • Prepare Follow up documents, Cutting lists, and Material lists for work-pack delivery
  • Ability and confidence to Redline client drawings with updates for work-pack hand-overs to fabrication.
  • They have responsibility during the planning phase to check that adequate controls are in place to reduce risk to BUK.


Experience & Qualifications


  • Experience of work within the Process, Nuclear, Oil & Gas, Plant or Power Generation industries
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Integrated Management Systems, methods and process. This should include experience within the Nuclear industry or similar regulated environments
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of the latest Piping, Welding and Fabrication standards
  • Experience working in a supervisory role.
  • Experience with process plant including maintenance delivery.
  • Proactive and flexible work approach.
  • Has delivered within performance contracts before.
  • Relevant trade certificate e.g. City and Guilds
  • You will need to be qualified to Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB) NVQ Mechanical-Level 3;
  • ISOH Managing Safety
  • HNC/HND Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
